In the year 2018 wizards, AKA WUDs, live amongst regular humans; they are however banned from using their magical powers except in limited authorised circumstances. This law is enforced by the Court of Magic; and its penalties can be draconian. The accused are defended by Wizard Barristers. The series focuses on one of these; Cecile Sudo, a seventeen year old Japanese/Canadian girl who is the youngest ever to qualify and works at the Butterfly Law Firm. Cecile was motivated to become a barrister so that she might one day overturn the death sentenced that was given to her mother after she used magic to save Cecile's life and killed somebody in the process. Over the course of the series Cecile and the law firm get involved in a number of cases while in the background somebody is manipulating her with the hope of awakening more of her magical powers
inevitably his motives are far from good. This was a rather fun series; there is plenty of action, some good laughs
mostly provided by Cecile's familiar; a perverted frog! The story has a decent plot which isn't overly convoluted and a gripping conclusion. The character designs are distinctive although anybody who was watched 'Mezzo DSA' could be excused for thinking Cecile was related to Mikura
although that is hardly surprising as both series were made by Yasuomi Umetsu. As well as Cecile there is a good cast of characters working with her at the law firm as well as suitably sinister bad guys. With only twelve episodes the series doesn't drag while it isn't a must see series it is certainly worth checking out if you want an undemanding story with action and a few good laughs. These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
