I've watched the first season of this show, in search of a feel-good comedy series. I was not even expecting them to be sensitive about the gender stuff (and they should nevertheless have been careful about that). But that issue has been covered by many previous reviews, so I will look through a more different window. This show has only two funny characters: Mark and Amanda. And they are marginal characters compared to the Suarez family, Meades, Wilhelmina and Alexis. These two are the only watchable thing about the show. The rest is crap. Vanessa Williams is a victim of the bad screen writing, but the actress who plays Alexis is just plain awful. The central character, Betty, becomes more and more annoying in time. At times, her actions and lines make you want to punch her, really hard. (Her acting gets worse in time as well) It is not about her looks. She is such a drama queen. As the main character in an "ugly duckling" story, you expect her to be good, nice, adorable, smart. She is not. She goes after someone else's boyfriend, cheats on her own boyfriend, never fails to be the most annoying smart-ass, has her own prejudices against others...the list goes on.And the cliché plot line bores you to death. The story is so shallow. You cannot find anything interesting about the father? Make him a murderer. And don't even mention that issue for the next 10 episodes. You cannot find any more inventive evil plans for Wilhelmina? Make him sleep with Bradford, who of course suddenly falls in love with her but yet loves his wife in jail still. Such brilliant screen writing. If a show makes you hate the main character, then that show is not worth watching it anyway.Bottomline: Don't waste your time watching this.

I Love Ugly Betty very much. America Ferrera did a great job for played as Betty Suarez, she totally nailed it. and so did the other stars. They are all acted so well. When i watched the very first episode i knew that this series is going to be huge, and I cant stop watching it. It always came up with a different problem in a every single episode but Thanks to Betty has always the way to figured it out. Betty is a sweet, Intelligent, Confident, Cheerful Woman who has to deal with not-so-nice people from her job. As we know, Working in a fashion magazine it is not always the easy one. Ugly Betty is a Quirky,Hilarious type of series that you would not want to missed. Im Definitely looking forward for the next season which is I'm dying to see it soon.

This long time New Yorker had an instant connection with this program. When Betty first told Marc that she had just graduated from Queens College, I had to laugh at his sarcastic reply, "That's a terrific value school." From that moment on this fellow grad of the very same "value school" had felt a kinship with Betty.Of course the plot twists were often over the top, but I was fascinated by it; and my wife and I looked forward to the days that it popped up on our recorder. Sure it was preposterous, but the affection of the Suarez family, along with everyone who set foot in that little house in Queens, was as genuine as television can get.I had a bet with my wife that in the final episode Daniel would go to London and ask Betty to marry him. I should have recognized that the quality of the writing, the human reality under the wackiness would not allow such a clichéd ending. He did go to London, and he was going through just enough of a personal transformation that one could very well anticipate that over time, things could end with them being together. But then again, maybe not. Ugly Betty is a program that didn't make it in Germany and other countries. But this Country, with all it's failures, all its faults, has gone through a monumental social revolution over the last half century, that happens to coincide with my adult life. So, it could portray a young man whose entrance into adulthood is a dance with another boy; no longer an absurdity, but while still a stretch in a Mexican ethnic household, not so much to be unacceptable to a large audience. The country has changed, and this program, one that I will sorely miss, chronicled this transformation.

They need to start writing Betty with a backbone! Seriously, what kind of a person stays a doormat to someone who blatantly uses them. Well, who likes people like that anyway? I'm losing respect for this character by the episode! I'm sick of the vision of a New York Snow White! So unrealistic! Give her some gumption if you want me to remain a viewer! AND MAKE HER FALL IN LOVE WITH GIO! HE'S THE HOTTEST THING ON THAT SHOW!!! I seriously love this show, but I need to see a tougher Betty. I'm glad they made Wilhemina nicer, but Betty is getting way too 2 dimensional. Oh, and do you think you could make the sister more feather-headed? And the father more insignificant? I actually am beginning to find some of the stereotypes of the Hispanics on the show are unflattering and suggesting that Hispanics are lower class.
