ghattasserge The plot is interesting at first and makes us wonder what will happen next to a man taking control of a country. But as an Arab myself, it shows nothing of what Arabs are; just enforces the idea of what the western already think the Arab world is like. Plus, what annoyed me is why are the native Arabic characters are speaking English with an Arabic accent among each other; this made the show lose its authenticity. Imagine Narcos being spoken in english, it wouldn't make sense. Finally, the acting is terrible, the actors are dull and completely emotionless plus cliche that we can predict what they're about to say.
evelienvandevelde I loved the plot line so started watching - but stopped after three episodes. So much is wrong with this series I don't know where to begin ... (watch for spoilers)The fact that Barry leaves for home, but neither of his children, nor his wife have any idea what is going on in the dictatorial run country - internet, international news stations, CNN anyone? The bleak bleak bleak acting of the lead actor Adam Rayner - main character - outshone hugely by Barhom, playing Jamal, Barry's brother. The crazy level of irreality of it all - Jamal is in hospital one day, after undergoing several hours of surgery, the next he hops around, leads two presidential meetings, no sign of any injury whatsoever. The characters (both Muslim and non-Muslim) are SO stereotypical! Naive and blind wife, married to the main character, son of tyrant for years, without ever having asked any questions. Annoying teenagers, one struggling with coming out, another who thinks she is politically aware of what goes on in the world. The young rebel-leader, old uncle-slash- general in charge, ambiguous counselor who plays an unclear role, the US ambassador --- depth is unknown to each of them. Unnecessary abuse by Islam characters - again forcing a stereotype that is, if not correctly framed, troublesome and dangerous. Touching on the subject of child soldiers, again without any framework, so hugely adding to strong, false, based-on-nothing stereotype ideas in the western world. Hanging publicly as a pass-time? If anything disturbs me most in this series, it is that it takes without any nuance elements like rape, violence, child soldiers, hanging, abuse, arranged marriage, ... all these elements, and just confirms the stupid prejudices that our world needs to get rid of. The whole thing feels like a Portuguese soap opera with the pauses, looks and sighs, trying to create drama but in the same time I sensed nobody on the set had any idea where the story was going ... including the actors. A missed opportunity to pass on a more nuanced image of Muslims and dictatorial regimes in general. Never have I rated a series 1. superficial. full of clichés and stereotypes. badly acted. stiff dialogues. oversimplified. bleak acting. unrealistic. lacks depth (story and characters)
sanjin_9632 Let's jump into it. I absolutely hate it, when producers cast Israeli/British/Australian/Swedish/American/Belgian etc. actors to play Muslims. This show isn't representative of anything. This plot is nothing special. There's nothing daring about this. It's mostly melodramatic propaganda.Barhom and Atias were good most of the time. Finnegan is terrible. Just terrible. Her role would've demanded a more emotional performance. One thing that bugged me. The gay son 'story-arch', if one can call it that. Why? Why would the writers do this? They obviously tried to fill a void, but guess what? They failed. Too many stereotypes. All over the place. There's only one way that this show could've been good or even great. Authentic actors, spoken Arabic with English subtitles with the same production value and a better script. 3.7/10 for the beautiful actresses.
rxsotoac As General Cogswell, Mr North, embarrasses us who have worn the uniform. He wears Master Parachutist badges on both sides of his uniform. As well as a Master EOD badge on his right side. The Master Parachutist and EOD badges are worn only on the left side and one van only wear 1 set of jump wings. Maybe he thinks he wants to look cool but he does not. If he wants something on his right side he should wear foreign jump wings, branch insignia or unit citations. If he wants to portray a warrior then he should dress correctly as one. As a side note he should look to ensure the ribbons on his left side are in proper order of presidence. Sorry but having worn the uniform most of my life seeing it worn wrong bothers me.
