Rarely write reviews and I am coming out of the comfort to give my best rating for Series 1. I have watched lot of movies/series related to investigation and I can say for sure that, Series 1 was one of the best I have ever watched (along with MindHunter) and I consider it as master piece.Matthew and Woody actions are impeccable. They set the bar so high that Series 2 fails to achieve. Series 1 was fantastic with the story line, chilling Louisiana settings, family emotions, classic deep investigative work (which is what I normally look for) and keeps folks very engaged over 8 episodes. Kudos to the entire team!!Series 2 is bit of a disappointment after watching Series 1. Lot of action, guns and series 2 was missing lot of classic investigative style work. I was tempted to write a letter to Nic Pizzolatto to urge him to get back to writing about subtleties of investigation and not go down the Hollywood action path (Hopefully he will read this). Collin and other Guy, were decent in acting but they don't fit into investigative line. They are better suited for action roles are some. In addition they play these boring songs in the bar when Vince and collin meet in the bar.

The first season of this series is nothing less than a masterpiece. It is probably the best detective story there is out there. Sadly, the second season is a completely different story. It should be called differently too, so you dont mix gold with plastic.I hope the stars of the first season come back some day, and create a new season deserving the title of True Detective.

This show is made of granite. Solid, rough on the edges but beautiful. Let's not forget that we are always fascinated by serial killers, catching them even more fascinating. Maybe we are fascinated because we are intrigued not because we have intentions to follow. Or maybe we want to save ourselves if we ever , God forbids, meet one. Since Woody possesses such a comic face , and Matthew such charm, it is very special that together they pulled this off. This is a clever, seamless, action ( but not testosterone) packed police show . For tellyphiles out there, this is a one of its kind series. No repetitions, no boring moments.

Season 1 was, as many other already have stated, a masterpiece with all the important components such as smart mouthed/witty characters, the ability to glue you to the screen because of intense, creepy or dramatic scenes, and of course an interesting storyline. I loved season 1, the cast and scenery was spot on.
When season 2 was about to air I got excited. The intro is the only thing about season 2 that is not all bad, although I believe it is too long. I had high hopes about season 2, but already a few minuites into the first episode I started feeling restless, I lost track because I could easily get distracted and I had to go back multiple times. Since I had loved the first season I believed that I had to give the second season a fair shot. I tried my best, having watched not all but a few episodes until I couldn't stand it anymore.
The casting was not bad, I appreciate the main characters, although I con't think they were a perfect fit for this story or for each other. They weren't clicking with each other. Maybe in some other series/movie they could blossom or really fit together, making the production a hit, but not this one. In addition to that I also believe that the storyline was sort of hastily scribbled up, not really worked on. It felt kind of like they made something just to make something, to not stand there empty handed.
