I believe if you prefer the other top gear like I do this one will not match up to itThis is not that show! This is a goofy like that with the love-hate relationship The hosts have with each other the exception they prefer the American cars. They shoot ya a few facts, crack ia few Family friendlyish silly jokes aimed at themselves and have a few challenge that a lot of us would enjoy doing with somebody else's vehicle.

Some say that it has never heard of quality programming, and that it can only be appreciated by blind cats. All we know is it's called Top Gear USA.This is not your British cousin's Top Gear. This isn't even your German cousin's or your Australian cousin's Top Gear. This is the horrible result of yet another American interpretation of a program that worked in its original form. Top Gear USA is what happens when American television executives get it into their heads that words like 'synergy' and 'monetization' and 'crossbranding' actually mean something in the real world.Rutledge Wood, Tanner Foust, and Adam Ferrara are -- occasionally -- likable enough, and their on-screen chemistry doesn't appear to be forced. Having said that, it's no great thrill watching them drive their predictable cars through unimaginative courses and around uninspired obstacles. The USA version of Top Gear is three guys on an insane road trip once a week. That's it.No reviews of current or future cars. No news about the latest and greatest from around the automotive world. No comparisons of current standard features or emerging technologies. No stories about anything to do with either the history or the future of the automobile. It's just three guys on an insane road trip every week. That's it.There are no stars promoting their most recent works and then taking a spin on a test rack. There are no discussions with leading lights in the automotive industry about the direction the automobile might take in the USA design studios and then taking a spin on a test track. There are no tall tales with racing drivers or team owners about the history and future of racing in America, and then a spin on a test track. It's three guys on an insane road trip every week. That's it.We can only assume Top Gear USA has been reduced to what it is because the producers can't get past the possibility that an advertiser might get upset if one of the presenters said something "less than flattering" about their automobile or their automotive product. That would cost advertising dollars. That would be horrible. So we get three guys on an insane road trip once a week. That's it.And that's not good.

Get rid of car guys and use comedians!!! The only car guy should be the Stig! Mix the show up, not just one suck fest totally transparently engineered challenge. I want car reviews by idiots and comedy and real challenges and cottage engineering competing against real vehicles. Even the Aussie version is better. Come on USA, fire these ass monkeys and get some guys with senses of humor that go off script and have chemistry. This is poorly scripted garbage! I used to respect Tanner Foust as a driver. Now I think of him as a self indulgent spoilt little gob shite. Way to screw his career! Come up with something original! Show us some great American roads! Go to war with the rest of the world. American vehicles vs the best of everyone else! You guys blow goats!!!!

OK, so the first season or two were a little rough. So were, it turns out, the first season or two of the UK version. But the show has now really come into its own, and is one of the best shows on TV at this point.I may have a different perspective than some of the more vehement reviewers before me - I had only seen a couple episodes of the British version when I stumbled across the US version. So while I had some idea what the show was about, I wasn't dead set on the original being the only possible incarnation of the show that would work. The US version has actually gotten me to start watching the original UK show, which I probably wouldn't have ever done otherwise. Now for the blasphemy: I actually like the US version better than the UK version. Sure, the UK version is fantastic. But the US version has really grabbed me (and several of my friends) in a way I never would have expected. I'm not really a car guy (sure, I like them, and I know some about them, but nobody's going to come to me for information about a classic or exotic car), and yet this show has gotten me more interested in cars than I ever would have expected. It's that good - you don't even have to really be interested in the topic to find it highly watchable & entertaining. It would be like a bunch of people who had no interest in sports watching a sports show, or people who had no interest in drama watching a soap opera, just because they were that good. Shows like this are few and far between.Perhaps the most telling thing is that my wife, who has no interest in cars whatsoever, doesn't mind watching it with me at all. In fact, she's started asking what channel it's on if she has to leave the room, so she can turn it on in the room she's going to. That's a minor miracle in and of itself, and clear evidence of just how entertaining this show is.Sure, if you grew up on the UK version, you may find this show to be complete sacrilege. I'm sure once you're used to one version, anything different just won't cut it for you. But if you ignore the fact that it has the same name, and allow it to stand on its own, it is, in the end, a really excellent show.
