Utterly unfunny...I mean honestly is there any truth in a sex crazed, chocaholic vicar who has nothing but disrespect for what she's supposed to be ACTUALLY doing. I found the whole thing cynical, unconvincing and treating country folk like they're nothing but morons. Very ugly, nasty even...But to top it off it's poorly written, Dawn French can make nothing of what are supposed to be witty one liners. It's the sort of sitcom where after every line you go UGGGGGGHHHHH... The rest of the cast are no better, the town millionaire, his idiot son and his comatose daughter-in-law try to act as merrily idiotic as is humanly IMPOSSIBLE. And that doesn;t even mention the half witted farmer and the slutty old lady...all supposedly hilarious. Truly abysmal television

The Vicar of Dibley had me in stitches when it was first aired in 1994. Now, I make sure to catch it whenever it's shown on TV. It never bores me! The First Series is very funny and I would recommend this to everyone. It's best to start watching this from the very beginning. This was followed by two specials : The Easter Bunny - which is hilarious, but also features the death of one of my favourite characters, and The Christmas Lunch Incident - which is definitely not one to be missed! After this, the sitcom gets seriously funny, what with the Comic Relief shorts and the final two Christmas specials - which are some of the best pieces of comedy ever to be filmed! In short, you'd be very stupid to miss this. The episodes are always aired now and again, so just catch one on the TV sometime, and I promise you, by the end - you'll be begging for more!

I have just watched the Christmas Day (2006) Edition of this magnificent comedy. The one where a stranger turns up on her doorstep, and goes out with her, eventually asking to marry her. Sadly, that was the second-to-last episode EVER, and we wait in anticipation for the final... will she get married? I felt that the saddest thing was that we will never see another new episode again. Ever. The problem is that it was everything that made Christmas, Christmas, and everything that made me a happy person. Christmas will never be the same without it, as I remember times where the whole family would draw up chairs, and laugh our heads off at Dawn French's antics until we were rolling around on the floor like lunatics... bliss. Now, we're forced to watch repeats of old films, and other comedies that will never match up to Vicar (in my opinion, things such as Little Britain), that makes it such dull viewing on the 25th, it puts us all to sleep. I would do anything to see another series of that wonder woman on TV, anytime in the year. It doesn't even have to be Christmas. In terms of "other" comedies, those that I feel will never match up to Vicar, the only ones I feel sentiment and sorry for are ones like Only Fools and Horses, as they, like Vicar, ran for what seemed like forever, and were never dull, and have all bowed out to pave the way for "new and better comedies" such as Little Britain, which is tripe. So, therefore, here's to the Vicar. We won't watch these new comedies at Christmas anymore, as I'll switch the VCR on, and get the family round to say hell to the TV Schedule, chuck Radio Times out the window and into the snow (hopefully), and watch a few hours of one of the best comedies in the world, sitting on the sofa, with a large box of Thornton's, just like the "chunky but lovely" vicar would crave for....I'll leave with some of my favourite quotes: "Now these ones are lard and fishpaste... and these are the plain ones... with just a hint of liver" Mrs Cropley (Easter Bunny)Vicar: Jim! I expect you'll be putting in a few pounds this evening? Jim: Nope Vicar: Nope? Nope as in "Nope, nope, nope, nope, yes"? Jim: On the contrary, nope as in "nope".Vicar: I've heard wonderful things about your cooking Mrs Tinker. Tinker: Have you? Vicar: Yes I have. Tinker: Have you? Vicar: Yes I have. Tinker: Oh you have, have you?And of course, the "I can't believe it's not butter" thing with Alice, but its too long to type.

Dawn French who believed it or not turned down an O.B.E. (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) with her comedy and professional partner, Jennifer Saunders in 2000, is worth watching alone. She is one of the funniest women in the United Kingdom or worldwide. The show is funny and worth watching over and over again. I love watching Emma Chambers who is better known to audiences for her role in "Notting Hill" with Julia Roberts. As Alice, she is purely divine and innocently funny. The popular Liz Smith (not the gossip columnist from New York City) is better known to audiences as the grandmother and has appeared in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Oliver Twist" is also memorable for her role as Letitia. Why they took her away, I'll never know because she's still working at 85 years old. They have an Easter episode worth watching again and again and a Christmas episode that you won't believe. I don't remember the other cast members but Geraldine as the Vicar is one of the most memorable and familiar faces to have made an enormous dent in this British comedy. Forget Absolutely Fabulous, this show is absolutely fabulous and better than that show than it could ever could.
