I love bad movies. Therefore, I love this movie. This is a bad movie. I love it. Don't let the positive reviews fool you, this is a delightfully terrible piece of movie-making. It ranks up there with the worst Stephen King adaptations, with overwrought acting and terrible special effects. It would be best served by MST3K. Marg Helgenberger and Jimmy Smits turn in some of their worst work to date.Traci Lords isn't even sexy. The "Tommyknockers" are funny, and not even startling, never mind scary. And then there's the patented ham-handed Stephen King kid dialogue. It's just crap.I love it.

good movie, unfortunately, a little ridiculous at the end. Pity, the atmosphere of the movie sticks well to the world of Stephen King, the short version of the 2H spend nearly quickly. A film to see if it's really cold outside, and with a good bag of popcorn.Ps: you would never again buy soda in vending as before.(spoiler)A beautiful jump cut between 01H49min05s 01H49M34S, when the blood flowing from his nose disappears before coming back thereafter. As said Uncle Claude, it goes and it comes back. Remember, if you are a dentist, to go to the scene of the next alien invasion. The false tooth flow freely. (spoiler)

Fairly faithful adaptation of a particularly good Stephen King novel. In the town of Haven Falls, Maine, something seems to be happening to the local population. A strange object in the woods seems to be the key to it all, but is it a power for good, or is it malevolent? Why are the residents having such strange thoughts? Why are the bizarre ideas for crazed new inventions happening? Why does the alcoholic poet seem unaffected? Is it the steel plate in his head deflecting some alien transmissions? And why are everybody's teeth falling out?King once again plays with small town fears wonderfully, elevating the 'you're not from around here' to new levels with the inclusion of an alien presence. The budget appears moderate, but it is well used, and the effects, though sparse, are effective. There's a good cast too, with a reasonably well rounded ensemble of characters fleshing out what could be a rather simplistic storyline. Not all of Stephen King's adaptations to the small screen are successful but, I am pleased to report, this is one that works almost flawlessly. It gets a little silly towards the end, true, but this is still an enjoyable piece of sci-fi horror.

Granted, the book in this case was not much better. This movie just did not have the best scenes from the book, it tacked on an ending that was just a bit to happy, and it was horribly miscast as when I read the book the pictures of the characters I got in no way resembled what we got here. Sometimes they get it near perfect, here they were off by a whole lot. The story is basically taken from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" with some Stephen King twists and perversions added to the mix, the book has the perversions, the movie takes all that kind of stuff out. In the end the movie is a dried husk of the book which was not particularly strong either. Jimmy Smits is awful in it, but then so is everyone else, and the fact it is a two parter and extended needlessly does not help matters out either. So all I can say is be prepared to see a lot of green light, a very toned down ending (granted I can see why they could not do the whole woman being naked at the end), and also be prepared for a very unmemorable ride. I would suggest reading the book instead, but it is not really all that worth finding either.
