Watching shows by The CW has proved a rather unfruitful experience. Their shows entertain and hit the notes they want to hit, but never break the mold or strive for greatness. After seeing 'The Secret Circle', 'The Vampire Diaries', later seasons of 'Supernatural', 'Ringer' and 'Hart of Dixie' it starts to feel like all those shows are the same. There are no standalone episodes but the longer story arcs don't feel particularly engaging and rarely really go anywhere. There's never any shocking twists - if a character actually leaves the show, it's done in an overblown dramatic way, and even that barely ever happens.Still, a show like 'The Secret Circle' has its strengths, especially to the undiscerning eye. If you want a show about pretty teenage witches, your options are limited, and 'The Secret Circle' delivers. By the way, you should check out the 90's movie 'The Craft' if you want more of something like this. The show is story-driven, and the story works. I disliked the parts that dealt with the adult characters, I thought the interesting stuff was with the teenagers, them coming to terms with their powers and learning about them and themselves. The characters are the weak point. The actors are not that good. It seems they were hired because they were good-looking - every single person in the show (or any other CW show) looks like they were pulled from an underwear commercial. This makes for nice posters and promotional material but cringe-inducing dialog.

--maybe a little bit spoiler-ish---Start is good, it makes you wanna watch next episodes. But closer to the middle there's way too much going on at the same time. Couple of times I asked myself something like "hey, and what about that story-line you abandoned a long time ago?". That said, overall the plot is interesting, you just have to pay a little bit more attention than usual. To the end they managed to finish all story lines and answer all questions (if I haven't forgotten about anything). There were couple good plot twists (although one was spoiled some episodes before, i think it would be better if they just thew it all at once). The show doesn't end on any huge cliffhanger, so the fact that it was canceled doesn't hurt too much. And I'm gonna give extra points to the John Blackwell. You don't know what he wants until the very end.

Why did they have to cancel this show. I cannot honestly believe it had anything to do with low ratings as it is just too good. There are plenty of other CW shows that couldn't hold a candle to this one but they gave them a second season order. I am completely unimpressed that another great show will be finished up on a cliffhanger. It's kind of like The Craft but with a few subtle differences. Overall though I am glad that I have finally watched this show. There are no typical vampires and werewolves in this one like many other shows and movies at the moment. It focuses on a new supernatural being. They have also setup the storyline really well so there are plenty of directions they can take and it keeps you guessing. Unfortunately I guess we will never really get to see how good it could have been.

My boyfriend and I loved watching The Secret Circle together. It gave us a variety instead of vampires and werewolves on repeat that you can find almost anywhere. The Secret had a great story, an AMAZING cast, it was one of the better show on TV during its time and even still to this day. It could've been renewed for even just a season two just to wrap things up and give us some closure. I really don't know how shows like Beauty and the Beast or even The Carrie Diaries are renewed even after anyone who watches these shows all say how bad they are, yet you guys have something great here that people love and it gets canceled. PLEASE bring back The Secret Circle even if you have to pitch it to Netflix as a Netflix Original.
