ferroln Just like every show that starts the actors are still trying to figure out how to best portray their character. That will always get better. The actual story is already great filled with a big world. That means with the vastness comes potential for huge adventures and long detailed filled storylines. I love that in a show. I read a review by aaron emaa and he nailed it when he talked about how they are paying homage to similar shows fome the late 80's early 90's im 30 and this aspect brings a comforting familiarity aspect to the show. I think this show has great potential and cant wait to see the character development.
freedomkoa Most reviews I've read on this show are by men who don't like a female protagonist or fantaay in general. I personally enjoy the show. No the special effects aren't amazing, but I enjoy Talon and a special race that isn't an elf. Some of the sarcasm and banter is enjoyable. I'm trying to write without spoilers, so its hard to give specific examples. The show balances multiple plot lines well without making everything about Talon. They handle flashbacks well. The show is on the CW in the states but on Syfy in other markets. Syfy has a good eye for shows. If you give this one a chance deapite the lower budget it is worth a watch.
SachaUchenik As jarring as it is to be thrown head first into a new world with unfamiliar magics and species, its even more jarring to see the awful reviews given to this show. There have been some great reviews here on imdb that defend The Outpost well, so I don't want to echo chamber this, but I also definitely created my account finally, just to leave this review. Any show deserves the attention of the viewer for more than 5mins. Especially the first 5mins. Coming to an educated opinion takes more than 5mins. You can't base an entire opinion on a show based entirely on the pilot, if that were the case, tons of great shows never would have continued past the pilot. Cheese is almost required of this genre. Its campy, cheesy, a bit over the top in areas, acting where the actors find their characters and grow into them. There is magic, creatures called Grey Skins, and a main character called a Blackblood, because of her blood. Of course it's slightly cheesy. Sex/Gender roles... Well, its just nice to see two characters carousing and drinking the tavern down while getting into a fight, winning at gambling, then passing out in an awkward pile, and have them be women. Because, yes, women do that, and its nice to see it portrayed on screen. I'm tired of tropey character, tired and dried out.. The Outpost has entirely turned them on their heads, while leaving room for new and refreshed character types.I've really enjoyed this show so far, and I'm going to be angry if it gets cancelled, I want to see the world develop and the cast become their characters, beyond a season and a half, preferably. The Outpost deserves the chance to be loved and enjoyed.
tony-146-695626 If you liked the Shannara Chronicles or Mythica, you will like this show. It does not hurt either that the lead actress Jessica Green is every bit as beautiful and charismatic as Ivana Baquero. With striking blue eyes and a general sexiness about her it makes the scenes where guys are affected by her very believable. Additionally, the actions scenes are helped by her real life training in mixed martial arts. This is not Lord of the Rings, and it will never be. But it does not have to be. The four episodes i seen so far were enjoyed by both me and my wife, as well as my 10 year daughter. Very refreshing to be able to watch something as a family without worrying about sex scenes, nudity, or foul language. The budget is obviously limited, as evidenced by the sets. Some of the pieces do look a bit like they were made for a play. The costumes are average, and above average for the villains. Very striking. Most costumes and outfits look new, but there is a decent attempt for the wardrobe to look topic appropriate. We were ok with it. It actually costs more money to make things look old or worn, so with a limited budget it is understandable. The acting is fine for the lions share of the episodes. Jessica Green is very good , obviously a seasoned actress with a couple of tv shows in her resume. The actions scenes benefit from her experience with MMA. Choreography is decent. Male leads Jake Stormoen (was an elve in Mythica) and Andrew Howard are great for the parts and fun to watch. The plot, what we know so far, is ok . Not everything has been revealed, and that adds to the fun of the show. We learn more each episode. As the series advances the plot thickens ant turns here and there, keeping the interest of the viewer. Its also fun to watch the changes in Talon (Jessica) as she starts off very secretive, hurt, vengeful, self centered, sing minded and slowly begins to change for the better. Worth watching. The rating of 9 takes into account the limited budget, and is for effort and entertainment value. We had a ball with the first four episodes so far.
