Reviews

Matt Otter Guess fans of the game hate this, but I'm the other way around (well, I don't hate the game). Grew up in the Nintendo era but never got much into the game Zelda, just wasn't for me.While I can understand people being upset that a source material they cherish didn't play out in another form of media the way they would've liked, I still say giving this cartoon a "1" and throwing a fit is a bit ridiculous.I can't speak to how faithful this is to the game, however I couldn't wait for Friday to come home from school and watch this show.If you can watch this show as it's own thing I highly recommend it, the animation is great, for the most part the voice acting it great - however, I didn't like that they made Gannon such a goofball so often, it really killed his menace, but there are great moments between Zelda and Link that get sorta deep despite the shows comical premise, wish they had made more.
tiskec **THIS REVIEW COULD CONTAIN A LOT OF SPOILERS. IF THE READER DOESN'T WANT THE POSSIBILITY OF THE CARTOON BEING SPOILED, THEN I SUGGEST VIEWING THE CARTOON BEFORE READING THIS REVIEW. THANK YOU.**I need not like the Zelda cartoon at all. It was horrifying. It not only upset me, it pis*ed me off. I've played the video game since the original on Nintendo (which is where Zelda originated). I always portrayed Link (the hero who always rescues Princess Zelda) as a hero of Hyrule. I expected him to be bad-ass. Nope. The cartoon made Link into this G*d awful, whining brat. Link really starts to irritate you, constantly arguing with the princess, trying to get a kiss from her. On top of that. Zelda can actually fight in the cartoon. In one episode she took out a three headed dragon (first boss in the original Zelda for Nintendo - I think?). So, doesn't this make Link more of a pest, rather than someone useful? Plus, Gannon was pretty lame as well. At least they applied that he was a sorcerer in the cartoon. Another thing that irritated me was Links sword beams. When you were at full health in the video game, Link shot beams from his sword. That's all he did in the cartoon when there was a fight with a monster of some sort. It would also send the monster off instantly. I just feel like there was no effort in making this cartoon to its full potential. Maybe that's why there was only one season, and only 13 episodes in the whole series. If you like the video games, stay away from this cartoon. This cartoon did a very poor job on the Zelda story-line, the animation was good for 1980's animation, and the dialog sucked. I would NOT recommend this cartoon to anyone who appreciates Zelda.
KatherinePetersdorf I love Zelda the video games, I can't think of anything in the world video game wise that I love more. I was so juiced when I got this DVD because I though it was going to capture the bliss of the video and the beauty that is link and his quest. It didn't. I was so angry I sent it back three episode in. The first thing that upset was Link's voice, seriously he sounds like his nose is got a laundry clip on it. The second was his hair color, brown...brown! He is a blonde, a beautiful, perfect blonde! The 3rd and the most important to me I found about 30 seconds into the episode. He is a jerk. The Link I know gives up everything to save Hyrule without getting anything in return, he is a hero because he cares about the people and not because he gets something out of it. I just wanted to pop his head off. It may sound like I'm a crazy fan, but I'm just stating my opinions, I would suggest this series to anyone unless I wanted them to mock it with me or see the horror and feel my pain. It is worth a watch if you like TV shows and movies because everything is worth at least one watch, you don't know what you like unless you try it.
donzabu The Legend of Zelda is a cartoon contained within the much more successful Super Mario Bros. Super Show based on the game of the same name. This cartoon is obviously a big screwup. It does no justice for the awesome game series it is based on, and anyone can you tell that.Yet still, there's something about it that is extremely funny. Maybe it's how they turned Link into a cocky jerk, or the nightmarish acting, but it manages to be so funny you just have to keep watching. In closing, the show is horrible, but it's hysterical. It's a guilty pleasure. Too bad it only lasted 13 episodes.
