I gave this show a chance and I kind of watched some of it. I was always waiting for it to get better, but it doesn't. It's so sloppy and fake and lame. Why would they make a reality show as bad as this one? They could have spend this money on better, quality TV. The girls speak all the times like these stupid, rich Cinderella's sisters, and their acting is horrible. I mean it cannot get worse than that. Come on MTV, better put some music. I really wonder if their lives could be like this. If yes, I feel pity for them. They might have money and be in the fashion industry and everything, but their lives are so lame, really. No friends, no real partners, no family values, nothing. Just a load of superficial trash.

I see that a vast majority of the reviews are highly negative. At the same time I believe many of the same reviewers are outside the demographics of this show. I know I am.The show can't be that bad. After all, people are watching it otherwise it would not have lasted for so long. The show is marketed towards young teenage girls and if you're outside that demo, the chances are, you are going to find The Hills unrealistic. No doubt this show is highly unrealistic and if you think about it, it panders to a young teenage girl's fantasy, shopping, fashion, good looking guys, gossiping, Hollywood, successful careers, drama over spilled milk, jet setting, night clubbing, Potterybarn furnished apartments, etc., and all this is happening to a group of girls fresh out of school? But I guess if you're young and hot that kind of stuff happens. There's no doubt at all, The Hills is in a land far far away from reality, so blatant, that the show comes close to crossing the threshold into science fiction. For example, it seems like anybody over the age of 25 does not exist in this universe except for the one evil boss lady at Teen Vogue.Yet I still give the show credit for its high production value. The Hills is very well done and does a brilliant job delivering the subject matter to its target audience.

So I made this aluminum ball you see. It's small and hard, doesn't bounce very well. It's shiny though which looks pretty cool for half a second in normal light and a full second in a multi-colored light. I ended up throwing it around for about 5 maybe 6 mins max with my little brother one night because we were quite bored for some reason. And yet the 5 mins we played with this aluminum ball were more entertaining than all the seasons of The Hills. Some might think thats too harsh but then again that aluminum ball had better acting, dialogue, character and drama induced moments in it's 5mins of flying around my lounge room then The Hills ever did in all it's seasons. To say this series is bad is one thing. Days Of Our Lives is bad but it's so-bad-its-good bad. You get a laugh because you know it's fake in every possible way and the show never asks you to question other wise. The Hills on the other hand doesn't. It expects you to not only believe that this farce is real but also to feel for the characters and the "drama". It's in this that as the viewer we do not laugh but instead go "Oh for f@#$s sake". Then the boredom steps in and makes us look at that aluminum ball gathering dust in the trash where this series should be instead. To conclude it saddens me that such a lifeless, boring "reality" show continues to gets season after season and yet great shows like "Firefly", "Rome" and even MTV's own little gem "Clone High" get cut off for tripe like this. Now if you would excuse me my brother found 2 pieces of cardboard to play tennis with the aluminum ball.

I was a little sceptical about "the hills" - a spin off from "laguna beach". However I (shamefully) find it extremely entertaining and many of my (male) friends do as well. Throw some hot girls, fit blokes, arguments and love into the mixer and you get a decent series to watch.Of course it's hard to believe this is meant to be "reality television" because the O.C. seemed more real than this, but don't frown upon it.Let's start off where it does lose a few stars: 1) First of all - characters as hot as they may be, unfortunately, I have found it extremely difficult to relate to any of them, where as in the O.C. different people had different characters to relate to.2) Then sometimes, there is too much drama, and sadly it becomes less enjoyable 3) Last but not least - acting (because that's what they are doing) is terrible, all they have to do is be themselves and throw in a few quirky lines - sadly we get random stares, awkward smiles oh and did I mention awkward smiles? Now here is where I think the show does gain a few stars: 1) Awesome soundtrack - it's MTV afterall!!! I have found 10s of songs I have loved by just watching the show 2) Lauren - she is just a likable, all-trusting character (even though it's hard to relate to her) she is very nice.3) Chemistry - I think Heidi, Lauren and Audrina are so different and yet seem so fitting as 3 friends.4) Brody - gotta love him, the dude says it as it is.5) Spencer - you need an antagonist and he is a worthy one.Overall verdict: 6/10 This concept is awesome, sadly it's a bit like marmite - you either love it or you hate it. Where the show loses out is certainly being called a "reality TV show". Even if all of that is "real" there is nothing real about these people - no real problems, no real feelings - it's a fake world. Nonetheless if you want to just relax in front of TV for 20 minutes - it's easy to get swallowed up by the world of rich American kids.
