I had watched these when they first came out. I recently re-watched them on HULU. If I had seen the series first, by itself, and not known about the world the Jim Butcher had created in the Dresden Files, I'd have been okay with the series. I probably would've even enjoyed it more. If I'd seen the TV show and then read the books, I'd have appreciated that the show brought me to the books. That was not the case.Unfortunately, the writers, producers and directors strayed so far from the books, characters, magic, and mantra, that they created a poor interpretation, ignoring what made the books so great. I hope they try again, someday, but with each book becoming three 1.5 hour shows. Or, they could take the "Side Jobs" approach to a series and never really do the books, except as full blown blockbuster movies. Now that's a good idea.

I just watched the whole series on Netflix and was disappointed to see it was canceled. Clearly the network didn't realize it had a good thing going. Awesome stories, good suspense, good mix of magic and reality. Good acting. All in all a fun show to look forward to. If you are that niche of viewers who likes a mix of the film noir, a little bit of horror, with a load of fantasy and humor, then you will want to watch this show. Story lines are a clever, the dark forces are creatively thought out. And the way they are battled are also full of surprises. I'm constantly looking for good Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and its not always easy to find, because by good, it needs not only the components of magic, but a little world history and research, great character development, and compelling character interaction. Also the Dresden files had the action, sexual tension, and suspense that makes the show having you come back for more.

Lets be clear. I have NOT read the books but still I watched the show and I want to say something about it.. Books aside. I know there is a lot of fans of the books who hate this show. I like Sherlock Holmes but I don't want all the Sherlock series to be like the books. It would be boring! I'm open to different ideas what original base brings to people. It's show what got the brilliant idea from the books and it's not bad show. I like the way they decided to magic to work - it's more like realistic magic, if that word fit with it - and there is a lot of good actors.. I like the lead. He isn't bad at all. True he could be more colorful but it's his style. I was really interested about that world even thought the way they made the show seem to be bit outdated. There was a lot of mistakes. OK actors and like I said it's outdated (etc.) and seems had done in a bit hurry/low money. I personally didn't like all the females what changed all the time but I think that's from the books.. Or?But I remember one similar series from year 2000.. The Invisible Man. True there was a lot of s*** but still I love it. True it wasn't that serious and they even know it wasn't THAT good when they made it.. But still it was really INTERESTING. And it was from an interesting idea.. They made it a bit different but still good. Even thought it seems they had to do it cheap way. I feel like same happened a bit to The Dresden Files.I would want to read the books.. But because I liked The Dresden Files series so much.. Will I like the books at all? I think I might. I keep my mind open and don't compare things TOO MUCH to each others - especially when there is different people involved who made those things.Even thought I know where the origin comes from.. Books are books and TV-series are TV-series. We should look at them like that way. As a TV series The Dresden Files was a bit weak but still one of the interesting series I have ever watched and I will remember it.

I just discovered this show on Netflix and am amazed that something so brilliant, engaging and well-written was canceled after only one season. The characters are well-developed, the cast is believable and the storyline is engaging. Compared to the reality drivel that has taken over television and cable this was like reading Shakespeare - engaging for those that like to have their brain cells teased a little bit instead of being "dumbed-down" by over-dressed idiots that can't act and think that behaving like a sociopathic idiot is entertainment.I think commercial interests (e.g. paying sponsors), were put off by the fact that the good guy practices magic and wiccan symbols were displayed in a positive light (e.g. used to suppress evil energies) vs. traditional religious symbols. For the record my religious affiliation is Christian and I am not offended. The "powers that be" made a mistake, I would pay for a second season!
