I have seen this series in one breath. But with every single compliment there is a 'but..' too. Fenning gives a performance that is outstanding given her age but... not all actors give their best unfortunately. The script is intelligent, exiting and it never fails to hold back when things are getting too spooky, fantastic or tempt to ask for too much technical blabla that you usually get in SF. So the events and characters always stay in a realistic decorum that is needed to accept the 'fantastic' without making it ridiculous.But.... the story lacks something. it lacks a planet. or to be more precise, it's premise seems to be that we are more alike then we might think - humans and aliens - but where is 'we'??? Where are the aliens and were is the population of planet Earth? I need them to relate to this great premise. I receive information on aliens but i don't see them act, feel, speak as a group to fulfill this premise. I see three families running through fields, villages.... i see a bunch of soldiers appearing everywhere without any constitutional back power. i hear about cover-ups but i don't see media that is covering or uncovering (just some blabla we usually see in movies), i hear about great theories on the very state of consciousness in both humans and aliens but again... where are they to show it to me?!!!... OK, a few representatives of both groups make this story. but they are tormented, hunted and are not common enough to make me be able to relate to the world they come from. characters chasing each other, mostly out of side of any population or media.... i miss the species of planet earth and beyond.one last thing. And i cannot explain it: i miss a heart. i miss a heart in this series. i miss goosebumps... and i am a sentimental guy. i would get them instantly. i was hooked up. but with the head. It's a Spielberg thing probably (?) and i don't even mean this negative because this great man delivers so many stories to think about. But i miss something that makes me choke..so, again, i would recommend this series. i saw it in one heartbeat, don't get me wrong. but with every SF-movie where i'm so relieved we are not drawn into the ship and are kept in our own imagination, here, in this one.... i needed the alien. clear, visual, acting, relating, talking. everything; so we are more alike then we might think? please show me next time! we are ready to enter the ship!

Despite itss slow parts, We all loved Close Encounters of The Third Kind...right? well imagine Taking Close Encounters and stretching it out into twelve episodes. Just imagine how slow it would be then. Well if done correctly, such an idea could work exceptionally well. hence, we have Taken, Spielberg's and Dreamworks' return to the sky and who or what is beyond. An outstanding mini-series, which when it wants to be can evoke every emotion. sometimes it's grim sometimes it's utterly heart-warming, though the series as a whole is dark, it has incredible mystique. My advice is that you dedicate one week of your life to watching taken, one episode a night, although it's good enough that you may go through it in only two or three nights.Starting with the Roswell incident of 1947, Taken chronicles three generations of Three different families leading up to the present day. they all have a part in this incredible story of a visit from other beings, who want something from us which they have waited a long time for. There are not many names in the cast, I'll say that. The only ones people may recognize are Datoka Fanning and Heather Donahue (Blair Witch). which I wouldn't say there are any award worthy performances, everybody is invested enough to be convincing, especially Fanning.I guarantee that unless you have a tree second attention span, You will come away from Taken with an amazing Television experience.

Just finished the last episode of Taken and as Dakota Fanning perfectly put it, I've been left with even more questions than before I began watching Taken. For instance, why did it take 10 2,5 hour episodes to tell a story that could have been told in 4 or 5? Why didn't they cut out all scenes with Heather Donahue (her acting was irritating and bad)? Why does Steven Spielberg thinks that people who got taken (if it's really true) should just suck it up and deal with it, because it is for a greater good? The story at some times is really slow paced and boring. I sat through all the episodes (sometimes it took a lot of effort), because I wanted to know if there was a good ending.*** SPOILER (well, kinda)*** The ending sucked, because there was no explanation at all. It felt like I was taken and dropped off at the beginning of the miniseries and nothing ever happened. Spielberg really has to stop with aliens (I mean, Indiana Jones and aliens?????).Some of the actors were good. Dakota Fanning, Adam Kaufman, Ryan Hurst and Emily Bergl were some of the best. Some had roles that were too small or unbelievable. Others were just too crappy for words.I want my 15 hours back that were taken from me...

Taken is good example of American television challenge cinema for quality. This mini-series is brilliantly written and has a lot of depth to it. They must have been a lot of research done and the writer must have had one hell of an imagination. The show is set from the 1940s to the modern day (which was 2002/2003) and set across America. From the 40s aliens started to abduct humans and generations of the same families suffer from it. In 1947 an alien spacecraft crashes at Roswell and the American government get interested in these events. The programmes focus on three families: the Clarkes, the Keys and the Crawfords. The Keys men had suffered from being abducted and try and find ways to stop it and test themselves to their limits. The Clarkes get mixed when a mysterious stranger arrives at their farm in Texas and impregnates Sally, the mother and the son from the affairs has special powers. The Crawfords where the family who get involved and become very influential in the government programme in investigating the abductions. This programme was well plotted, with some good actors and excellent production values. This was the programme who discovered Dakota Fanning and helped made her a star. The programme also tackles ideas about conspiracies, the role of the military and freedom of the press. There are scientific theory being looked at and concepts of time and space. There is a little issue about the use of Nazi Scientists by the Americans. Finally there are historical events being looked at such as the Cuban Military Crisis, the Iranian Hostage Crisis, the End of the Cold, the Afghanistan invasion, Cold War paranoia and psychological warfare.
