tomasajdari This show is quite boring. SG-1 is way better. There are three main problems - boring, bland characters that just don't fit the situation (Teyla, Ronon), lack of motivation for the expedition after the first season and the Wraith. The whole Wraith/Lantean war is just a super-massive plot hole and it forced the writers to downgrade the Lantean technology level, which took away any awe + it completely ruined any possible resolution of the central plot. What's more : the capability of some key technologies is downgraded between the seasons - Atlantis can communicate with 3 million ly distant Earth in season 1, but it can not reach about (at most) 50 000 ly distant ship by season 5 - without any explanation. They are desperate to steal some ZPMs from the Replicator home world in season 4, ep.2, yet they steal none when they get there again 10 episodes later. And they can beam soldiers down there, yet they had to use missiles to nuke the home world 12 episodes before that - why not just beam the nukes? Too many idiot plots. You get my point... The Goa'uld had charisma, the Wraith lack that (mostly). The first season was quite good, season 2 was average and the rest is just....good for treating insomnia. The target audience is likely 8 - 12. SG-1 always had something for all ages - and it had far better cast, characters and enemies.
Kareneo You know when a TV show (or movie) comes along that you thought to yourself just before watching 'This is probably gonna be total shite, but what the heckin' heck, I'm gonna check it out anyway!' ... and then it gleefully knocks your socks off? Well, this is one of those shows. It has all the the things that normally set off all those klaxon-ish warning bells, and yet ... and yet ... it is fan- freakin-tastic! Because it exists in the land of half-ish-assed Sci Fi (let's face it, Stargate the movie, and then Stargate the TV series were both pretty unbearable to the more fuss-pottish Sci Fi nuts among us who demand nothing less than high-end concepts and rollicking momentum) ANYhoo - from the start you can see that it has some good mojo going, and even though there are some painfully written characters in the mix (i.e. a certain 'villager-woman' who never learns how to say "It's" instead of "It Is" no matter how much time she spends with the 'Muricans!! Like I said - ANYhoo, the Sci Fi concepts covered in some of the episodes are SO sublime that I can honestly say in my lifelong pursuit of brilliant science fiction - I have never actually seen some of them done before! How amazing to get a TV series where they cover ground that has never been covered before! I am in awe, and I am more than happy to sit through the more pedestrian bits of this show knowing that the pay- offs will come. I cannot praise this show or the writing highly enough. Sad to say that to view it in 2017 instead of the early 2000s will show its datedness, but still, you would be hard-pressed to find something of this calibre in our more 'enlightened' times.
jdat_1990 Obvious plot holes, sub-par CGI, some problems with continuity, issues with how the military handles their respective positions that had me rolling my eyes and mumbling under my breath.Whew. In the name of honesty, those are the reasons why I'm not giving the show a 10/10. Incredible acting, and despite the plot holes, the story is built up to perfection, with season finales that have you gripping your seat (And mumbling at the TV). Or netflix, in my case. It's an incredible show. If you haven't watched it, do yourself a favor: Watch it. The lead actors are compelling and likable, the villains are villainous without being cliché. Even though the CGI isn't the best, it isn't bad enough to distract you from the spectacular story.
dinalt10 ************May contain spoilers*************** Just been catching up with the series on Netflix, and can only say that it's another show cancelled way too early. Was it perfect ? No. Was it enjoyable ? Yes.Unfortunately, Sci-fi on TV seems to often be the first casualty in cuts. While 'reality' shows and cheap soap operas carry on indefinitely. And this shows here quite clearly. An ending that seemed to be rushed - and left many stories left to be explored - primarily, did they ever get Atlantis back to the Pegasus Galaxy.A show that could easily have had at least another 2 seasons - but like many shows, seems set to languish.Shame.
