This series of star trek gives me the impression of being fan-made. The core concepts may be recreated but not too well. Acting is OK but the writing reminds me of some kind of nickelodeon series. The story doesn't suck me in, and seems to be more about the crew and their jokes. I only watched through half of the first episode before being too appalled to watch any more. Besides that, the actors don't even remotely look like the original ones. Spock looks like someone sleep-deprived in too much make-up.all in all I would NOT recommend this series to anyone who likes star trek for what it is, this is a bad ripoff at best. 1/10

I just briefly skimmed through the pilot and don't think I'm going to watch it at all.... The special effects are really amateur (you'd think in this day, with all sorts of computer software out there that it wouldn't be an issue, and a show made 40 years ago would look worse but it doesn't), but nevermind that. The big thing that spoiled my interest was how awful the lighting was. Like something you would hack together from stuff from the hardware store. Noticeable shadows and darker tones. At least get the lighting right.I would rather recommend people read Star Trek books instead if they are really into the whole Star Trek storyline.

I disagree with Ralph Pillosoph (JBearProd)'s review as he does not know anything about the shows origins. The show was jump started as a fan show but quickly grew into something much much more.. It continues the enduring legacy that Gene left us.Eugene Roddenberry Jr has been a part of the show since it's second episode as a consultant. The series since the 3rd episode (To Serve All My Days) has been written by star trek franchise writers that have been well known through out this and the star trek universe. The Original Series' own Dorothy C. Fontana as well as David Gerrold who wrote the most watched trouble with tribbles wrote episodes for the series. The last episodes were a two parter that deals with things of the hear and now... Not 40 years ago, or even 20 years ago. I'm not going to spoil the episode but the episode was originally written for TNG and Gene turned it down on numerous occasions because of what it dealt with. I'm not saying I personally agree with all the content of the newest episode but it was certainly well written and very heart wrenching.. Nice seeing Denise Crosby on screen again.Cawley Entertainment also co-produced Star Trek of God's and men which brought a lot of star trek alumni as well as some other sci-fi actors. These shows that have so many of the star trek alumni involvement aren't just fanfiction.. Just because paramount didn't make them does not mean it is not just as important as any star trek franchise series, It just means that it has way more heart behind making it then some greedy studio-head (no offense paramount).. It's our way of continuing the voice that rings in our hearts that Gene started almost 50 years ago. That one show can make a difference, change the world, and bring everyone together peacefully.

I came back to Star Trek through this series. Really- after years and years (two decades!) of loathing the whole Star Trek format due to truly terrible TV sequel shows, I saw this advertised online, got a friend to download it, and fell deeply in love.Of course it gets top marks- the sheer enthusiasm overrides any problems with budget and production. Yes, the acting can at times be, er, curious. Yes, the cgi is horrible. Yes, the sound needs some serious attention. But they listen to the criticism and try to evolve... the differences apparent from first to most recent episode are there for all to see. They're learning their craft as they go along and I am more than happy to stay along for the ride. The scripts are fun, professional and in keeping with the original series's tone- though I could do without continual fan-friendly appearances of aspects from the past, or worse the "future", of the Star Trek universe. I'd dearly love them to concentrate on telling original stories without resorting to guest appearances and the like. I wish the effects were more in keeping with the original too- but hey, that's all secondary to the immense enjoyment I'm getting from it.James Cawley's unique interpretation of Kirk- one part Shatner, one part Elvis and one part JFK- seems entirely appropriate for such an iconic character so linked with 60s America- so appropriate that, on diving into a read-through of some old Trek novels, I find myself picturing him, rather than the "original" as I go.In short, as long as my mate can continue to download them, I'm here for the duration. I wish they had more cash- to afford 'planet sets' and monsters and of course to make more episodes, but I'll take what I can get. Many, many thanks to all involved- for entertaining me no end- and for rekindling a love of the original show.Still can't stand any of the other TV versions though...Steev
