Classy, Witty, Satirical, Dynamic... Seasons 1-4 TV series brings a half hour of highly enjoyable escapism. Well loved characters. Michael J Fox is the glue for the whole show. It started with him and unfortunately the show died without him. The strong ensemble cast gave the show depth and representation, from Carter to James you felt that the show had a commentary from a broad spectrum of characters, not particular deep as perhaps west wing, but that is not the intention. you become invested in the T&T of these characters, as with all good shows, they bring familiarity, social commentary at its light entertainment best. This show like "friends " was a staple diet during my university years. Recently i have got my hands on the whole series of shows. It was a pleasure to revisit this comedy. Good luck to Mr Fox's foundation on Parkinson's research.

Personally I think that this is one of, if not the best TV series ever made and although it was very sad to see Mike have to leave for personal reasons I still think that Charlie was a good replacement and that it continued to be as good with Charlie as it was with Mike because of the fantastic acting from the likes of Alan Ruck and Barry Bostwick. My personal favourite character in the show would have to be Stuart Bondek because i think that he is just brilliant with the way he makes fun of everything and also turns everything into one big joke.A very close second would be Mayor Randall Winston because he is so funny when he needs to be but then can be very serious as well such as when he saying goodbye to Mike at the end of series 4 and how he says that he has been like a son to him i thought that was very touching. One of my other favourite TV series would have to be Scrubs which I know was made by the same people and that Michael J fox, Alan Ruck, Barry Bostwick, Alaxander Chaplin, Richard Kind, Michael Boatman and Heather Locklear have all starred in and they were all as good in that as they were when they did Spin City.

I just felt I had to add a comment after reading the one from shrek2004. I too, loved Spin City with Michael J. Fox and Jennifer Esposito and was also concerned that their replacements would have a lot to live up to. Unlike the previous comment though, I found they worked very well and Heather Locklear was a great addition and to say she is wooden is not only unfair but entirely wrong! OK, you may be thinking I am being swayed by the fact she is extremely beautiful but I am also not that shallow and found she took to comedy acting very well and added another dimension to the show from all the "blokey" humour. Charlie Sheen, although not a Shakspearian class actor is always fun to watch and their chemistry (Sheen and Locklear) works very well. So, if you get a chance to watch the "New Class", give it a chance because it is still very funny and the new kids are alright (in my book!).

Spin City was an average show with only a few chuckles here and there. Michael J. Fox carried the show with Alan Ruck and Richard Kind as strong supporters. The rest of the cast were simply amateurs. Michael Boatman (Carter) is a good actor but he is lousy at comedy and Alexander Chaplin (Gaberman) whatever his name is just sucks. Barry Bostwick (The Mayor) could have been a real comic invention. Instead they made him into a bumbling fool, most of the time anyway. It would have been nice to see an actor in the same league as Al Pacino in the role and see how he would have handled it.Michael J. Fox became too ill to perform on the show and you could see it on later episodes. His exit was one of the more memorable in TV history where at the end he came out to take a bow with his fellow co-stars and you could feel the emotions from the set right out of the screen. Remarkably, the show was not canceled but they recast the lead, not as the same character but a new one called Charlie (his last name shall go unmentioned because we all know who I am talking about). Earlier they added Heather Locklear to the cast and there was a storyline involving Michael and her character Caitlin in a romance. They sparred well off each other, but when she was paired with Charlie it wasn't as involving or funny. The only reason why, was because both of them are just too attractive, so it wasn't such a good gimmick to have them romantically involved as Michael and Caitlin. Michael is leagues behind in the looks department. He gets by by his charm, I think. Charlie hasn't got that charm and Heather Locklear comes off as the same character she played in Melrose Place when she squares off with him. So I think what finally canceled the show was a lack of writer invention, not necessarily because of the cast changes. You can't say that Michael J. Fox was better than Charlie or that Heather Locklear isn't talented, but you can say that new stories are hard to come up with in any fictional show and the writers finally were finally out of ideas.
