Synopsis

Sonic, Sonia, and Manic are the children of Queen Aleena Hedgehog, the rightful ruler of Mobius, and are pursued relentlessly by Doctor Robotnik and his bumbling bounty hunters sidekicks, Sleet and Dingo. As infants, the siblings were separated and placed in hiding to fulfill a prophecy made by the Oracle of Delphius that the triplets would grow up to find their estranged mother, overthrow Robotnik, and take their places once more as Mobius' rightful rulers.

Robert Plant This was an amazing anime and I would thoroughly recommend it to anybody who enjoys being alive. I have found no flaws yet with this absolute masterpiece and I truly believe that god sent it down to earth to enlighten and guide us on our path towards becoming the ultimate beings who will ascend into the clouds and live in global piece there for eternity. I told the witch doctor I was in love with you I told the witch doctor you didn't love me too And then the witch doctor, he told me what to do He said that .... Chorus: Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang Walla walla, bing bang Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang Walla walla, bing bang... Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang Walla walla, bing bang Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang Walla walla, bing bang I told the witch doctor you didn't love me true I told the witch doctor you didn't love me nice And then the witch doctor, he game me this advice He said to ... Chorus Now, you've been keeping love from me Just like you were a miser And I'll admit I wasn't very smart So I went out and found myself A guy that's so much wiser And he taught me the way to win your heart My friend the witch doctor, he taught me what to say My friend the witch doctor, he taught me what to do I know that you'll be mine when I say this to you Oh, Baby ....
jordan-haslett So I know a lot of people have seen in and yes to agree with the more varied reviews it's not an amazing show, it just about pases as good in my eyes. One thing that the show does really well is create a Sonic storyline which is a bit out of the norm, admitabley the songs in the show get very tiresome after just a few episodes but they're not a deal breaker. The characters are okay, they're back story's are explored to a decent extent and it does provide an interesting insight into the Sonic universe. That's pretty much where the praise stops, I mean I like watching the show but as much as I do I'm not blind to seeing it's pitfalls. The animation is pretty bad, the voices barley sync up with the characters and often the characters replies would be very delayed. Like a bunch if he other reviewers I was very disappointed with how the show ended, the gang of hedgehogs never found their mother. Instead we were just left with a bog standard final episode!
Samanfur I know that this show has its fans. I don't generally view deviation from the Sonic norms as an automatic reason to dislike a series - I reserve dislikes for series that simply aren't of decent quality with any licence. And 'SU' came across as one of those.I won't start by taking chunks out of the lack of Tails or the addition of Sonia, Manic or Sonic's royal bloodline. There's so much deviation in settings between Sonic continuities that to say that one's bad because it doesn't take place in the Green Hill Zone is a waste of time in my book. But let's just look at the concept, shall we? A trio of disinherited rock musician royalty, travelling around in a battered camper van, fighting evil with a set of medallions that can turn into musical instruments or weapons on demand. The weapons were straight out of 'Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers'. The van even looked like the Mystery Machine. To me, the whole feeling was of every cheap and nasty 1970s Hanna-Barbera super-team that I wanted to forget. The use of Jaleel White as the voice of all three hedgehogs, for all it was probably meant as a "cute" gimmick, was a mistake. For me, Sonia came across as though she was gargling with gravel, and the fact that it was so obvious that one man was having a three-way conversation with himself just came off as cheap. But there was an overarching story under there. And it seemed to develop. Knuckles turned up, and whether or not you count Sonia's little crush on him as just adding up to a Rouge-Julie-Sonia debate as bad as any of Sonic's triangles, the story made sense within itself.Knuckles was even handled fairly well (all profiles I've seen say that girls're one of his weak spots ;)). It was just a pity that that oddball spinning fist punch of his where he started whirling his gloves like a pair of parallel windmills was animated to look as though he was charging his enemies whilst holding a pair of dumbbells. Even today, when I read Archie, I can still here Knux's 'SU' VA (although he may've been slightly nasal) reading the lines. All of the downsides could probably have perhaps been forgiven - and the series vaguely average and bearable, if not outstanding - if it hadn't been for the soundtrack. The absolute insistence on cramming at least one alleged "song" into each episode wasn't only a squeaky assault on the ears for me (couldn't they've hired some better songwriters and session singers?), but crowbarred them in and broke up the action at moments when just telling the darned story would've been far more use.The use of the cheap and nasty pop video effects seemed almost calculated to show off exactly how big a CGI budget the series hadn't got.'SU' never seemed to be able to make up its mind who its audience was. It had the style and look of SatAM, but the execution of 'Jem and the Holograms', right down to the music style. It seemed designed to make absolutely no sense to anyone from any age group who'd come across any of the Sonic continuities before.I'm afraid that every time I think of 'SU', I picture a group of forty-something W.A.S.P. males in grey suits, sitting around a boardroom table on the twentieth floor of a skyscraper and saying: "Today's kids like rock music and being rebellious, so let's make Sonic a way past bodaciously rad rebellious rock musician! Tubular... umm... man!" I know that there're 'SU' fans out there. They've attacked me for this stance, saying that I shouldn't attack a Sonic series like that if I'm a "true" or "real" fan of the franchise. And I'm sorry. The fact is: I'd like to've been an 'SU' fan - but when a series is what I feel is sub-standard, I'm not going to put up and shut up just because it has Sonic's name attached. I'm going to be vocal, rather than risk watching the licence get dragged any further down because some executive or other things that they can get away with it.
SonicStuart Sonic Underground was a little bit like the SatAM series but not a whole lot because all the other freedom fighters from the SatAM are left out and so is Snively and the power rings. But at least this series still has the whole robotisizing thing. Another thing is that Sonic's Uncle Chuck was only in the first episode and they never see each other again. Another thing that was different was the way the SwatBots looked in this series. Sonic Underground is the 3rd Sonic cartoon that came out 2 years later after Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) was canceled again off of USA Network showing reruns. In this cartoon, Sonic and his siblings Manic (Sonic's brother) and Sonia (Sonic's sister) are the hit rock 'n' roll band on Mobius called the Sonic Underground but in reality they are the children of the lost Queen Aleena, the queen of Mobius. Now Sonic, Manic and Sonia must fight Dr. Robotnik and save the planet Mobius and find their mother with the aid of their medallions. I missed Tails and the other freedom fighters from the 1993 ABC Series but at least I was glad that Knuckles the Echidna was in this series because I think Knuckles is one of my favorite characters in the whole Sonic the Hedgehog franchise along with Sonic! Plus I thought Manic and Cyrus were cool characters also! Especially Manic because Manic has that lay back and be cool sort of attitude plus I think he looks cool! The only one thing I didn't like about this show was Gary Chalk doing the voice of Dr. Robotnik because he didn't make Dr. Robotnik sound scary and evil! I think Jim Cummings should have done this Sonic cartoon just like he did the voice of Dr. Robotnik from the ABC SatAM version. Or I think Mark Hamill would have done a good job at doing the voice of Dr. Robotnik since he is pretty good at doing creepy villain voices. But the only thing I liked about Dr. Robotnik in this series was that he looked exactly the same as he did in the SatAM Sonic cartoon! Also I liked Robotnik's bounty hunters, Sleet and Dingo. I liked Sleet better than Dingo because I thought Sleet was cool looking and I thought Maurice LaMarche was excellent to provide the voice of Sleet! Dingo I thought was stupid and funny. I didn't think Dingo was stupid as in I didn't like him he is just stupid as in not very smart as Sleet. Why did this show have to last only one season? I think this show deserved more than one season! Just like the Sonic SatAM cartoon got to have more than one season! I first discovered this series when I was checking what was on TV the next day and I saw Sonic Underground on there and I asked myself, "Since when did Sonic come up with another cartoon?". At first I thought it would be a series that picked up where Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) left off but instead it sort of looked like a spin-off or a prequel. This series was pretty good along with Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) and Sonic X! This series also has great animation!User Rating: 10/10BOTTOM LINE: WAY PAST COOL ALONG WITH SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (SATAM) AND SONIC X!
