Some series shouldn't be in HD. Sanctuary relies so bad on the special effects, that it awful tricks makes the series impossible to enjoy. The worst is that the story is great. A great idea for such bad execution. Bad directing, ridiculous acting and very, very poor computing effects makes this "unwatchable". Is so obvious that the footage is make in a green or blue set, and all the environment is computer added, that you can't enjoy the story without thinking that the actors are in fact in a set, and all you're seeing is computer added rooms. But again, the story was so good, that I somehow managed to see all the 1st season and a few episodes from the 2nd. Now my eyes are in pain, can't do it anymore.

Honestly, I watched the first few episodes of season 1 because I was a fan of Stargate SG1. However I just couldn't get into the storyline a few years ago when the show first started to air and the greenscreen was a distraction for me. Now, I started watching the show backwards from season 4-3 and I'm working my way to season 2 and then season 1. Yes, its an odd way to watch a series but its super fun. It's like watching the history of the characters and how they evolved. The storyline is actually a great one, I think this is one of the best sci-fi shows on television right now. The production value is really good and the green-screen isn't a distraction anymore. I loving it!

Sanctuary, being a unique saga with abnormals, created immortals, and unknown worlds daily earth dwellers have not a clue, will continue to SciFi thrive, AS LONG AS writers/directors keep in mind how Gene Roddenberry scrutinized Star Trek stories. What?!!!! Connection? Robert Blake, Barretta, from the 80s, said it WELL, while Merv Griffin show alive. Robert stated expectation of shows/movies to come because of SOME pocketbook producers. It was a warning how productions COULD become, based on how much is lost because QUALITY lessens. This is NOT condemning EVERYTHING, just what applies. Therefore, for Sanctuary, nothing BUT Unique/Quality writing/directing can keep we fans tuned, versus finding better shows. For this fan of many is why time NOT given idiot shows that are wondered why they were made. Love live Sanctuary!

I had a lot of hope for this show when it first debuted. It has the talented Amanda Tapping at the helm and it started out with a really cool, creepy goth feeling to it that pre-dates a lot of the current vampiremania that's all over the big and little screens. Problem is, it feels like it's lost a lot of that uniqueness. The story lines can be very entertaining (especially when Tesla's in them) or they can feel like 20 minutes of story fluffed up to fill the hour-long slot that Sanctuary inhabits. Tapping's character is engaging but, as someone else noted in the comments section, it's all over the place and kind of distracting. I like Robin Dunne's character too, as the "everyman" former government nerd who gets sucked into a really strange and wild ride when he agrees to join forces with Team Magnus. Christopher Heyerdahl is just plain great playing shadowy "are they or aren't they" villainous types so it's good to see him move beyond his previously entertaining role as "Todd the Wraith" in SG:Atlantis. With no intended disrespect, I just can't cotton to either of the fast-talking, too-cool-for-school younger female characters played by Emilie Ullerup (first season) and Agam Darshi (later seasons). The actresses themselves were fine but the both of their characters (Ashley and Kate)were/are neither sympathetic nor likable. Here are two characters that could be great but the writers spend too much time trying to make them edgy and sarcastic rather than strong, capable and wry. Bummer. I hope the story lines get a little more interesting and I hope the writers at least try to build on the backgrounds of the characters more as well. Until then, I'll watch it when it gets back to it's truly interesting roots.
