pout-15676 For this season I'm very disappointed. With Abby being dead, the flashback is more than I can handle with the scenes going back and forth. We should move forward with a new scene and not look back in the past. Does this actress have some leverage on the producers that prolong this MADNESS!!!
daveym-649-444962 There has always been the odd slow part to the Ray Donovan Series', and I have enjoyed them all. But Series 5 is real hard work. Flashbacks, criss-crossed storylines - for ALL characters, not just the obvious, make it very hard work. There are even flashbacks in the flashbacks, and whole episodes of flashbacks showing what was revealed in the previous episode - Bizarre! They really could have dealt with the main storyline in the first two episodes and developed the mystery over the net 10. Don't know if they have tried to be too clever, or if they just ran out of ideas. I guess only time and season 6 wil tell, but it could be the end of a great series, which maybe should have been halted after Season 4!
macpet49-1 If one watches a lot of these shows now one has to come to the conclusion that psychos, sociopaths and amoral people are the heroes of our time. Ray is maybe two of these or all of these. The new type of writing always shows the personal side of these people--oh, he has a family and he is a loving husband /father. This was true as well in the vastly popular 'Sopranos'. They're not truly bad, just motivated by love of family. They don't really break the law--they just follow the trends like the Stock Market, twisting it a bit. His brother hates and would kill all homosexuals but he's really just a good kid who was molested (BTW, I was 15 too once and I never met a healthy male teen who could be made to do anything they didn't want to--just ask their parents and peers.). His wife isn't a former hooker or dominatrix, she's just a girl who didn't have the opportunity to get much education. His daughter isn't a borderline on the rise--she's just being a teen. His father isn't a bad ex-con, he just got some bum deals in life and wanted to avenge his son's bad priest homo abusers. Let's all rally round the 'deez, dem, doze' boys and show them how much we appreciate all they've done to bring culture into our world. The one saving grace of the this show is that it probably comes closest to revealing the real Hollywood as it is and was. People with money and power are always corrupt. Macbeth will always do the wrong thing but that's why we like him and identify with him isn't it? I used to watch film and tv to escape the horrors of life; now it just pulls me down even further into it. I used to read about man's atrocities to man. Now CGI brings it home so I can actually see people beheaded, brains splatter, rape, torture--all in 3D!!! Lucky us!!!!
jcjs333 I loved the first show so much i decided to keep Showtime after my free trial. By Season 3 i regret it. In the middle of season 3 Abby says the 'f' word each time she speaks and many of the other characters do also. I measure of show by the necessity of putting the 'f' word in the writing as a contrived filler. As in life, the more the 'f' or 'c' words are used the more of an illiterate , ignorant low life a person is. I love vulgarity but it's not power packed unless used rarely and wisely. I wish Mickey would have been killed of long ago because he's boring. All the brothers but Ray are dunces by Season 3. They all say they hate Mickey and say they'll stay away from him yet they let Mickey step on them episode after samo samo episode showing what masochists they all are. Abby started out hot, strong and cool and now she's a trite foul mouthed weakling. Stale is the word to describe the series now. Not even someone with good ADHD, like me, can be sucked in anymore. There are always, at least, 5 soap opera plots going on with these fine actors having sloppy writing and poor plots to burden themselves with. Even Ray's looks and overly nonchalant behavior get weary. Mickey is simply irritating and , mostly , the whole darn show lacks credibility. But, since i'm stuck with the subscription for a month i'll trudge my way through it. Sad. i'M STILL trying to watch this but they are getting worser than worse with every Donovan getting stupider and studpider. Ray and Terry Donovan are as dumb as fence posts. Whewie
