This is fantastic. The writing is superb. It's a completely faithful adaptation of the source material. Beautifully acted. And let's be honest Cornwall is an amazing setting.

I fell in love with the first season of Poldark and realized they were based off of the 12 books written by Winston Graham. I decided to read the books while waiting for the next series and it's one of a few instances where the tv series is as excellent as the books. This series is so well cast and the story so well written (closely following the books) that you can't help but love these characters and their lives. Season 4 is turning out to be my favorite yet.

I'd say this is just as good as (though not better than) the original. They are just two different animals. This one has more slick production values, so beautiful scenery can be shown well, and good characterisation by Aidan Turner (I hope they don't cheapen the thing with more 'bare-chested views', though) and Elearor Tomlinson. I do miss the 'rustic chorus' that was in the initial series - and the peasants are portrayed as a bit too clean looking, in my view.It is good to see that the BBC can still produce something decent of the type that used to be produced (in the genre of North and South, though that was better), without descending into the onslaught of PC messaging that is so off-putting to many viewers, making them turn away from the BBC ...

Poldark is a mixture of Downtown Abbey, Pretty Woman and Dallas. It has the feel of J.R. Ewing's deception. Richard Gere's arrogance and Julia Roberts' insecurity. The pomposity of the Downton Abbey's Crawley family. Believe in unconditional love; unabashed hatred; and the determination to succeed. Well scripted, acted and cast. I'm ANXIOUSLY awaiting S3.
