I guess we must be low on Canadian content shows because this is the only reason that I can think of that it is still on. Started out funny as they used more of the characters to flesh out the show. Now it seems to be all about Mr. D and he isn't a strong enough actor to carry the show. He is a funny stand up but that is a one night event. I know it is supposed to be a comedy but the show has become just to ridiculous.

Mr D started off as a pretty funny show. The jerky, arrogant, hating his job, know it all teacher that gets himself in awkward situations all the time. Fair enough. When watching that show I was literally smiling.Recently, and I mean the last three seasons, I do not find myself smiling anymore. I go more like, hmm, OK, but I keep watching it, because I hope that it will get as good as it once was. The main reason I believe it to be is that the sidecharacters on the show, are starting to get on my nerves. More and more they become stuck in stereotypes. Like Trudy, she used to be funny, now she is just mad or Gerries roommate, (Bob or something) used to be OK, now he is just bitching at Gerry the whole time. There are too many negative vibes coming from that show now and I don't like that. The sidecharacters are more and more one dimensional, one trick pony kind of characters, not good. Also, why not going further into the marriage of Gerry and Lauren Hammerseys character. Lauren is a nice woman and it could be funny to see some development in that, in stead of just leaving it at what it is, and get their marriage annulled again. Lauren as a principle was a good move as well so, why the writers wrote her off after one miss, unbelievable. Gerry could maybe awaken a little bit and admit that he likes her, you could get them to live together, but that would change the setting slightly, see how that plays out. The little teacher, Pauls girlfriend, should go. The librarian, out. Mr, Malik, brilliant character. Trudy, awful character, way too dominant. Now at the end of last season Gerry and Lauren got married, there were maybe two episodes, the writers have done something with that. At the end of this season, Gerry gets to teach gym next year, his life long dream and Lauren gets fired over nothing. A little bit more explanation of the characters to each other would give this show a little bit more realism and even could give it some dept. However dept might not be what the writers are looking for. I think they just want to ,milk this show until it falls apart by itself. Classical 2016 mentality use it and toss it. Well good luck with it anyway, and I see it when it appears again, but would actually not surprised at all if it ends here.

Simply a terrible show. Not funny, bad writing and poorly developed characters. The only saving grace is that Mr. 'Dee' is no longer a high school teacher and subjecting real kids to this kind of garbage (he no doubt honed his craft in the classroom). The show plays on some very disturbing stereotypes. The episode I watched involved him longing to return to teaching at his old school. He parks out front of the school to watch the kids as they exit. The police arrive to warn him (again) to get off of the school grounds and stop watching the children, playing on the notion that he could be predator or pedophile. The vice principal plays an even more disgusting character.Anyone who rates this show high obviously has a vested interest. I feel badly for anyone who actually watches this show with any regularity.

This is the same type of cringe humor displayed by the Office but maybe a little gentler with a Canadian slant.I am finding as I get older that there is a significant proportion of the population that won't get shows like this and these account for the negative reviews. If you liked "Two and a half Men" or think Tim Allen is the funniest guy ever don't watch this show. There is plenty of stuff more to your taste available.Gerry is an egotistical ass and he plays it pretty straight. The humour hits like a car crash in that it is unavoidable and a prisoner of the momentum of Gerry's failings. It has a sweet heart though with the kids who are in on the joke from the start.
