Synopsis

Tokyo, 2045 - Young Hiroshi Ozora, a Technical Development Engineer at frontier technology conglomerate ZIC, creates a super-suit which bends the laws of physics and makes him feasibly the strongest superhero of all time. Quickly his exploits earn him the name 'Captain Tokyo' as he becomes a media darling. At the same time, the Dolls, a group of deadly, but glamorous teleporting female androids under the control of a mysterious evil scientist calling himself Dr. Machinegal, embark on a wierd crime spree. Moldiver foils their first attempt to steal a classic formula 1 race car from ZIC's race queen contest. The winner of that contest just happens to be Mirai Ozora, college student, mall-rat and younger sister of Hiroshi. She's decided that its up to her to discover the secret identity of this mystery hero! And the answer could be more surprising than she ever imagined...

Reviews

sheng-long MOLDIVER is about the misadventures of Mirai Ozora, who discovers her brother's aspirations to become a superhero, but decides two things straight off... One, She can do better... and Two, She can design better costumes... Both are found to be very much true, and Mirai quickly becomes the costumed superheroine, Moldiver, as well as the superhero, Captain Tokyo, when the transformation unit decides to turn her into him.One thing that surprised me about this anime, considering the abuse a lot of anime got, due to US edits, in the 90's, It was always broadcast with the same intro and outro, to such a degree that you could show the anime to a Japanese otaku of the show, and they could sing their version of Go Go! Moldiver and Time Limit over the English words, and you could do the same in Japan, except the other way round. Also, It is incredibly funny, partially due to the fact Mirai is still a high school student at heart, and the fact you can't be dressed when you transform, a fact that costs Mirai a lot of money in one episode...Anyway, Buy it, rent it, It doesn't matter... Just enjoy it.
CrunchyCookie Like the last guy said, "it started out good." To finish that statement: after the clever first episode, it's a steep decline downhill. This is supposed to be some kind of action-romance-comedy hybrid, and in trying, strikes out with one swing.Action? Every sound effect is muffled, every fight scene weak. It's not much fun watching Moldiver clean everyone's clock, partly because it's not done with much style and partly cuz there don't seem to be any laws of physics. Romance? Unconvincing -- she's just chasing some guy we've learned nothing about. Comedy? Didn't laugh once.By the way, what was the plot?
Thanos6 The first two episodes of MOLDIVER were pretty hilarious, with Mirai and Hiroshi fighting for control of the power. And Professor Amagi/Professor Machinegal was always funny to watch. But, unfortunately, the last four focused too much on the relationship between Mirai and Mr. Misaki, and I feel that this hurt them. Still, the final two episodes did have some decent fight scenes. I recommend that you check this series out and decide for yourself whether or not it merits subsequent watchings.
Anthony Bannon (bannonanthony) SPOILER WARNING:This six-part anime series is wonderful, and funny too. It focuses on a young inventor named Hiroshi and his sister Mirai. Hiroshi invents a device called the Mol-Unit which transforms it's wearer into either a burly superhero or a gorgeous Wonder Woman-type heroine (after Mirai modifies it that is). The brother and sister team use the unit to fight crime in Tokyo of 2045. The snag is, the transformation only lasts for 666 seconds, and Mirai has a bad habit of using it for personal reasons. The main bad guy is Hiroshi's old teacher Professor Amagi who masquerades as supervillain Machinegal, who has a severe case of kleptomania, especially for 20th century technology. The Professor is aided by a team of gorgeous female androids. These androids, especially their leader Isabelle, have got to be the most desirable anime women ever! (I know,I'm sad!). I recommend this anime for all fans of the genre, but I warn you, some of the dubbed voices get annoying after a while!
