Synopsis

Michael Hayes is a TV series that ran on CBS from 1997 to 1998. It stars David Caruso and Ruben Santiago-Hudson. David Caruso plays in the title role as Michael Hayes. Hayes is an Irish Catholic ex-New York City police officer appointed acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York State. This series was Caruso's first attempt at a comeback on television, after he infamously left NYPD Blue a few years earlier and a failed launch into movies, when both Kiss of Death and Jade were box office and critical failures. Despite this, Michael Hayes was cancelled at the end of its first season, and Caruso slowly continued into supporting roles in film and guest spots on television before reaching new heights once again with CSI: Miami, which ran from 2002 until 2012.

Reviews

bob the moo I loved David Caruso in NYPD Blue - he was the epitome of tough cool. When he left I hoped that his movie career would take off. Unfortunately he didn't seem to want to play any character different from his "tough guy with a sensitive and moral edge" role from NYPD Blue. Hence his return to leading roles in television. It's unfortunate that again he found himself back in the same role again in Michael Hayes - essentially a lawyer version of John Kelly. Caruso is good in the role, but then I'm biased because I liked this role. However you can't help feeling that Caruso is being totally typecast and is not enjoying it.The stories were reasonable throughout the series and again brought the NYPD Blue themes of tough justice - Hayes bringing regular large cases where he brought justice to wrong situations. The series was pretty standard fare - I enjoyed it because I do like Caruso (typecasting or not), but generally you did get the feeling that you'd seen it all before.Good series but given Caruso's NYPD Blue potential he really should be moving forward and not lingering in TV dramas that retread ground he's already covered.
netmaster Michael Hayes is a rather nicely done tv-serie that was too short on the air, and what I can gather, It wasn't that costy either.I think one could watch it without having to worry about *not* enjoying himself. (And if you don't enjoy the serie, okey.. no problems, have two asprins and call me in the morning)JS
