I just finished the first season of the animated series Metalocalypse. It has 63 episodes in a total duration of around 12 hours. Episodes last only for about ten minutes, but I think it's better not to watch them too many at once. I watch one per day, usually during a morning coffee, so that my day starts with metal and laughter.Series follows the adventures of the band Dethklok, the most popular death metal band of all time, a band that is so popular that it is one of the strongest economies in the world and has such an army of fans that it has a serious impact on world politics. Members of this band are five completely different personalities representing caricatures of "typical" rock stars. As much as they are successful as a band, that much everything they touch goes berserk and ends with a total disaster from which only the band gets out without major consequences. Show is satire of western civilization, modern politics and consumer society, as well as the prejudice of metalheads. The animation is pretty good, the music and lyrics are excellent, story has a fast pace, a lot of black humor and it's extremely brutal and gore. And the opening theme has immediately entered the very top of my favorites and is one of the few that I do not skip even though I saw it so many times that I know it by heart.8/10

I had to get used to the show for the first three episodes, but then it started to be one of the funniest shows I've ever seen! There are certainly ups and downs, but Metalocalypse never fails to amuse. A very brutal show in both the literal and figurative sense, lot's of gore and death, but also a nice satire on the metal culture. There's a lot of death metal music in the series and I personally love that, I don't know any other shows that focus on metal. As a metal artist myself I enjoyed it intensely, but I'm not sure either non-musicians and/or non-metal-fans would appreciate it. I would certainly recommend it!

So I'm a woman, I'm not really into metal at all, I appreciate the skill but normally not my cup of tea. My husband started watching this on Hulu recently and at first I couldn't even understand it. But after a few episodes the production value cleaned up and I really noticed the subtle and not-so-subtle humor and now I'm a huge fan!! Honestly Muderface and Nathan are tied as my favorite characters! Like others have said, lots of gore, lots of dark humor, but it's so metal you just have to take it! Intellectually some may find it shallow and dumb, but pay a little attention and you see the writers are great, just enough pop culture to keep it relevant but not sopping down any of the metal at all, just keeping the guys human. Seriously, just watch it and have some fun!

...& a very dark sense of humor. I have not a clue as to how Brendon Small's "Home Movies" went on for 5 years, but apparently, people liked it enough. Metalocalypse is the opposite. Instead of life lessons learned, we usually wind up with lessons on death. Instead of generic characters, we have evil, war like creatures and the most eccentric characters this side of hell. Drugs, decapitations, and much dismemberment is just a slice of what goes on in a typical 11 minute episode of it. It's very adult, and if a 5 year old watches 1 minute of this, they will grow up to kill you. Ha.Clever writing exists here, as it fills in generous amounts of the life & times of a Death metal band, Dethklok. It's kind of like "This Is Spinal Tap", but with blood, an Illuminati type group that wants to stop them, the coolest manager you have ever seen, clowns and cocaine, & lots and lots of more blood. Likewise, the humor is hard, but absolutely hilarious. Hell, even the music is good. Amid the mesmerizing, sometimes repetitive nature of the visuals, it is like a train wreck that you can't peel away from. Or, more precisely, an airplane that's caught in a storm, loses it's engines and about to crash into a train, somewhere over a gas line, and very close to a very large crowd of people all gathering for some useless cause. That's a lot of death. And that is a very good thing.
