Synopsis

The year is 2040 and the galaxy is flourishing with several colonies and advanced technology. AI is near perfection and the current top idol is the near-completed Virturoid Idol Sharon Apple. All that is missing are her actual feelings, which instead are supplied by Myung Fang Lone. Sharon's debut concert is on planet Eden, where at the same time, fighter pilots Isamu Dyson and Guld Bowman battle over air superiority for the Supernova Project. Isamu, Guld and Myung were once childhood friends, but after an accident seven years ago, they went their own separate ways. With Myung back in the picture, the old disputes are once again awakened. And when an unstable and illegal AI technique is installed in Sharon, the situation is worsened.

Reviews

David Curtis I saw the first part of this OAV when it came out years ago and for some reason I never watched the rest, well recently the opportunity came for me to see it again and boy am I glad I did.Its brilliant, It has it all action, adventure, emotion, and an evil AI Idol singer, what more could you want.I thought that the way Sharon Apple was developed was fantastic, you are constantly bombarded with images of her, as an Idol, something good, so when she goes mad and those same images come at you with evil intent, it twists they way you view her and makes her really sinister. Then there's the music, wow, music has always been an important part of any Macross story so its important that its good. The music in Macross Plus is superb. From the bittersweet "Voices" to the songs of Sharon apple all of them evoke emotion and fit the tone of the piece perfectly.I now want to see the movie as I'm really interested to see what they cut and added, I can see the story lending itself really well to a feature. To sum up, if you haven't seen Macross Pluss and your an Anime fan, then see it, I cant imagine it would disappoint anyone.
Steve This is one of those animes that just leave you sitting there in awe for a while after you turn off the tape / DVD. It's just simply that good. First of all, the animation is solid and well done. A fine, entertaining mix of CGI graphics and crisp, clean and modern japanimation make this series a visual treat, which is understandable -- After all it is one of the more expensive animes ever made. The plot is also very admirable, an engrossing love triangle between Isamu Dyson, Guld Bowman, and Myung Lone. You'll be sucked right in. Despite what some may think or say -- There is also a good degree of action in this little series. Enough to wet the whistle of any hardcore or new viewer of the Macross saga. You'll feel yourself relating to the character, feeling what they feel, and so on. You'll find yourself rooting for either the YF 19 or the YF 21, which are the test veritechs in this movie. It's a great experience. The soundtrack is highly superb, as in incorporates a fine mix of lustful tunes with some good spirit lifting songs during flights, and at the end of episodes. Whether you watch the dub or the sub (the dubbing is actually very well done in this series ), the vocals are fantastic, and very important to the movie's plot and overall experience. As far as whether you should get the movie or the volumes -- I would HIGHLY recommend you go for the volumes. The movie is, for some weird reason, more gory than the volumes, as the final scene with Guld .. that just ripped my heart apart. But aside from that, the volumes give you more scenes, some of which are very interesting, such as an opening action sequence. It's just a more thorough watch. I truly hope that all anime fans get a chance to see this series -- It's fantastic, inspirational, and visually great. My highest recommendation for this one.
JediShaft The Animation is with out par, Character/Mecha designs are inspired, great music, and the story is amazing.Basically it's a love triangle between childhood friends, who still having somethings to work out... Set in the future world of Eden, a sci fi world that almost seems possible. Although it is set in the same universe as Macross, it was conceived as a new project and made to fit into the existing history of the Macross TV series. So if you haven't seen Macross or only know Robotech you wont be lost in this story. If you love this series, check out Vision of Escaflowne (Make sure it the uncut/unedited version.. The best choice is subtitled). Some of the same creators worked on both project and who can resist Medieval Mecha.
omega1 The first time I saw it was when Teletoon ran it one week a few years ago, and I have loved this movie deeply ever since. Awesome animation, great mecha fights, lots of dramatic stuff, great soundtrack, cool villain, and the Macross Consortium's Superdimensionalfortress! What more do you want? Not -all- is well though, and if there is any problem I'd have to voice about the movie, it would be the dialog. Though the dub is very good compared to most others, the dialog is sometimes very confusing or just silly, like Isamu's classic "I don't want to eat you up, little man. Stay out of my way".Overall, though, it's worth a watch. Definitely.
