LiquidPoetry1921 When 'Lip Sync Battle' first premiered, it was great entertainment! Taken from the success of it first being seen on Jimmy Fallon's 'Tonight Show', it was fun seeing show business personalities lip sync to their favorite songs. Now it's just become the 'same old, same old' in each half hour episode. With a formula that NEVER changes, 'Lip Sync Battle' has two performers on each show. They might be an actor, singer, comedian, athlete...anyone familiar to the public. The first half of the show has them performing a rather bland, average song ~ with the anticipation of the second half of the show where they pull out all the stops. You can then expect to see elaborate costumes, backup dancers...and even the occasional original singer of the song that's being lip-synced. For example, Channing Tatum was mouthing the words to Beyonce's 'Girls Rule the World' when she stunned the audience by joining him on stage for 38 seconds. Not a typo...that was it. It is a highlight for 'Lip Sync Battle' to have the original artist appear with the lip-syncer on the show, but that unfortunately is a very rare occurrence. What started off as novel has become plain boring. I've come to simply tape it so I can skip all the unnecessary filler and just watch the performers IF they happen to be entertaining that week ~ which has knocked this 30 minute show down to just 7. I think it's safe to say its on its last legs. Time for another great idea from Jimmy Fallon!
shortstop-63183 I have a very stressful job and I happened on this show by accident when it was Hathaway V Blunt. I laughed so hard at Hathaway doing Mileys song. I have watched several episodes since then and they make me laugh every time. Its silly and sometimes we just need silly. The Tatum V Tatum one was so good. It is nice to see these big named stars just being foolish and having fun. I enjoy seeing LL Cool J on the screen he has always been a favorite of mine. I don't know why people seem to have an issue with Tiegen (I may have spelled that wrong and if I did I apologize to her). There will always be haters I guess. But if you want to just have fun and laugh I highly recommend this show.
Marie Greene Nice take on Fallon's lip sync battles. It can go a bit long, and sometimes the routines/ songs can be raunchy, but it's not on prime time. However, surprise unscheduled appearances by the likes of J-Lo, Mary Jo Blige, and more, as the celebrity contestants try to one up each other make it fun. Anne Hathaway's take on Miley's "wrecking Ball" is a classic. I can't believe I even enjoyed Justin Bieber's appearance. Derek and Julianne Hough's routines were surprising, entertaining and disturbingly wrong. Ha! I've liked every episode and even Crissy T is growing on me. LL Cool Jay can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. He's an excellent host. I highly recommend it for some later night entertainment.
baseballproo77 The premiere of this show was as good as it could have been, and that's what worries me. It wasn't very funny, with the exception of John Legend's last appearance of the show where he went all out. Otherwise, this was the exact same as Jimmy Fallon's version on his show, and gets just as many laughs in 5-10 minutes that this show gets in 30 minutes. It is dragged out through weak dialog and commercials. They should just keep it with Jimmy. The Rock basically just sat there and sang, not getting out of his element much. Fallon did his normal thing, but still wasn't "absolutely" hilarious. The second show featured Legend and Common, in which Common didn't do much and Legend left his element not once, but twice. The second was of him to MC Hammer, and it was well rehearsed and pretty great. It is the sole reason this is a 4 star review over a 2 star review.
