Sam Tyler: "I need you to connect me to a Virgin number -"Operator: "Don't you start that sexy business with me, young man. I can trace this call".A lot of people may not know what the TV show "Life on mars" is about and to be honest I didn't too. I over hear people talking about it but I never got a chance to watch it and has years past I forgot all about it, until I FINALLY got a chance to watch it and I'm a bit disappointed with myself for not watching it sooner because this show is freaking excellent.Life on Mars gives me that classic nostalgic good cop and bad cop feeling, also taking place in the 70's, this is perfect for a series and how could people over look this brilliant and well made show.John Simm plays are main character (Sam Tyler) and John Simm has said the script for this show was "Bonkers", and he was right but my god dose it worked so well in this show. John Simm and the rest of the supporting crew was just terrific and they wasn't that one person who did a terrible job, no they all did terrific. They cast the right people in the right roles and that's just good to see.Philip Glenister has (Gene Hunt) was simply brilliant has this mean, bad cop who wants the case done badly, which makes him a lot of fun to watch. Sam and Gene back and forward was just TV gold. The 70's soundtrack used in the show was also terrific and I listened to those tracks about loads of times now. The story was great and interesting, the cast has I said before was great and the writing as well was fantastically well written. Now this isn't going to get the perfect rating of 10/10 because it isn't up to that level, but it still get's a strong rating of 9/10.P.S. If you haven't see this show then... well, watch it please.

Based (obviously) on the David Bowie song named before this, Life On Mars is a completely successful drama that combines the horrors of coping with a past and your present, and coping with a new setting, new faces, and completely different way of life.Basically, in a nutshell, this (in my opinion) would've been one step further than Doctor Who. It was that intriguing and successful, that it has earned my respect from the kind of person who is piqued in interest by these kinds of shows.John Simm and all the other actors really put a stick into the behinds of other great British and American programs, and say, "Here! Have some more!" and sticks it further. This is one show that no one should be able to trifle with, no matter what.

To those who are writing reviews if you have come to write a review for the recently canceled ABC series please turn back you are at the wrong place (there has already been two people who have written reviews for the wrong series) You are looking for the 2008 Life on Mars series. This version was produced in the UK in 2006 and stars John Simm. If you liked or even if you did not like the American Life on Mars I highly recommend watching the UK original series. It is one of the best live action series I have seen in a long time with a combination of great drama, comedy, and superb performances by all involved. In my eyes there can be no other Sam Tyler or Gene Hunt except those played brilliantly by John Simm and Philip Glenister. Their chemistry as a team was impeccable.Without spoiling anything I will say this is one of the few shows that completely delivered right to the end. In fact not only did it deliver it exceeded my expectations in every way possible. So take the journey back to 1973 Manchester and watch this amazing series. I promise you will not be disappointed.Life on Mars can be remade but the original can never be replaced!

What can be said about Life on Mars that hasn't already been said. John Simm is superb and the way his character adapts to life in the alien police environment of 1973 is enthralling and makes one smile when he adopts the mannerisms of the time. Having been a police officer in the 70's I can say that they have caught the period perfectly from station behaviour to job attitudes - especially to the WPC (Annie Cartwright) played by Liz White. The question of whether Detective Inspector Sam Tyler is insane, has been transported back in time or is in reality lying in a hospital bed in a deep coma is not resolved until the final 2 minutes of the last episode of the 2nd series. And every minute spend watching the series that takes you to that moment is enthralling. I guarantee that the ending will leave you sitting there in contemplation of all that has happened. Brilliant in every respect. Enjoy it or ... 'I'll go round your house and stamp on your toys'.
