I didn't love it. It felt slow and repetitive of themes. I loved the actors, Ian McShane is brilliant as always. Sebastian Stan plays a perfect in the closet gay man in his typical bad boy, brooding, damaged character. I didn't even make it to the last episode because it was too slow moving for me. I felt like the family dynamic was predictable and I could tell the relationships were not going to go well from the first couple episodes. I am not gonna lie, I watched this soley for Sebastian Stan. He could be taped eating cake and I would most likely watch it. Hes a great actor, but he got stuck being type casted into these particular roles.

The 12 hour long episodes of "Kings" make a complex and satisfying little series even if all the major characters are largely left intact at the end for the second series that never was in this tribal Middle Eastern monarchy meets media-savvy Middle American democracy melange. Viewers not well versed in the biblical source material will miss little and those who have OD-ed on their OT will still face the occasional surprise. The narrative of power and passion is well told, at times decently written and with some class acts, notably the standout Ian McShane as King Silas (read Saul), not quite up to his "Deadwood" standard but impressive none the less. The younger actors have less material to play with and tend to rely on facial expressions more than acting but as the pace quickens half way through the series after a lot of scene setting and some longeurs it does become an exciting story. In about 20 minutes on screen Brian Cox gives a masterclass on how a great actor can excel in a small role by extracting everything it has to offer, while Eamonn Walker and Susanna Thompson give solid support. Chris Egan as David Shepherd (geddit?) gets better as the series goes on and he loses his naivete and starts taking some initiatives though Alison Miller is a lacklustre love interest. Jason Antoon and Joel Garland play two security guards commenting on the action but the device isn't well sustained. All in all worth seeing through and savouring.

awesome is a word used a lot these days but in this case i mean it this is one of the best series i've seen - and i've seen a lot. it is the most tragically under viewed underrated series of all time. because the NBC screwed up its airing times and didn't advertise it in the right way to the right people. (yet again) and basically sabotaged its own creation this is a cancelled gem.why do American TV companies have to eat there own young, its barbaric.i don't think its been shown in the UK and i doubt it will be now. this is such a shame, the storyline is unique as is the atmosphere it creates. the visuals are stunning,as is everything else about it. Ian mcshane shows why he is held in such high regard, but the rest of the cast is excellent too. if you get the chance to catch this do so. i have been very annoyed at cancellations before (many times in fact),but never have i seen quite such a wasted opportunity. i wish it had been made on a smaller network it would have had a better chance of survival. except of course they couldn't afford a series this expensive. if the big networks in the u.s don't get 20 million viewers an ep they cancel. think of the the best film you ever watched - now imagine if they had cut it off halfway through making it. that's what they have done here. they could have wrapped it up so easily they had a possible ending right at there fingertips if they weren't going to make any more they could have at least finished it. there are some on this forum stating that it has got an ending of sorts, - they must have been watching a different show to me,as far as i can see it has hardly got started.i very much doubt if this will ever come out on region 2 dvds. i will buy the dvds in region 1 if its the only way i can get them.its very frustrating not to have a proper finish, but its THAT good i would still rather have it unfinished than not at all.

Definitely, a good watching both for Christians and other folks concerned with such matters as destiny, karma, God, signs, calling, etc.I first rated the show 10 because got so excited about the plot but then had to downgrade to 8 because of some flaws with characters due to the secularism of the script authors. If not the Biblical story and characters behind this show, it would come 6 out of 10. But it's just amazing how inspiring and even edifying a show becomes once you insert the Scripture. Also, the contemporary wrappings (our times and things look like America) make it more appealing and relevant. The authors did alter story lines and only the general figures of the account from the books of Samuel and Kings were preserved. I guess that even helped the show. Otherwise, things would be too predictable. It's nice that some authentic spiritual principles were represented - signs from God were treated properly, matters of sacrifice and character, great deal of grace/mercy on the part of God who is still the judge, etc. Another possibly positive factor is that the producers are not hardcore Protestants who would inevitably make the product sterile and merely black and white. On the other side, the spiritual side is somewhat shallow and obviously lacks the understanding of how men and God interact and communicate. Those who biblically are men of faith - here, sometimes appear merely as doubting liberals, always confused and ignorant of the ways of God. Some totally unreligious Hollywood films once in a while come up with characters way too deeper and stronger in faith. Still, thoroughly enjoyed the first season and looking forward to the second one if it ever is produced.
