I gave the show 9 out of 10 overall, but the first series should really get only a 7. Much of it was awkward and forced, although still funny. Series 2 had better stories, better jokes, and the cast were more comfortable in their characters' shoes. If series 1 doesn't quite click with you, at least give one episode from series 2 a go.I didn't see Hyperdrive in its original run, so I knew series 2 was the end. I really wish they had continued the show for another couple of years. It felt like it could have gone on quite a bit longer. There seems to be something about sci-fi, whether it's comedy or not, that leads networks to cancel it before it really gets rolling. I don't know why they even give it a chance if they're not going to let it run its course. I suppose we should be thankful for the little we get.

Anyone claiming that this show is boring, rubbish, or a waste of time needs their sense of humor tuned up. I've watched every episode + loved it from start to finish. No it is not Red Dwarf + it doesn't need to be. Brilliant cast, brilliant deadpan comedic delivery, brilliant "moments" from a group of talented actors with turns at both heart-warming + laugh- inducing antics. And to anyone with the general notion that "women aren't funny", you obviously haven't witnessed the hilarious Miranda Hart as Teal in this series. Lovely.

Yes, I enjoyed Red Dwarf, too, but "Hyperdrive" is nothing like it. Imagine "The Office" set on a spaceship. Or a send-up of Star Trek - very much in the vein of Galaxy Quest. Hilarious lines and over the top acting. Nick Frost (as Commander Henderson) is just like Ricky Gervais as David Brent in "The Office". But it is Kevin Eldon as the psychopathic York who steals the show. The crew act exactly like office workers now - spilling hot drinks on desktop consoles, bidding for planets in online auctions, etc. when they are meant to be working. Also full of great throw-away gags like the instant camp fire. I eagerly await the DVD with extras (I hope) and for season 2.

i loved this series of Hyperdrive, it was a new experience for British television and i think that although the acting was a little wooden we can forgive this just for the presence of nick frost, a legend amongst actors i agree and disagree with the comment left before i believe it was an excellent idea and was a good television program, one which differed so much from the typical American television shows that have become part of our nationality, i believe that shows like scrubs are taking over our television, although they are funny the American producers do not understand what British comedy is and that is mostly irony. This show proves that British comedy is still alive and fighting back slowly but surely against the humourless American shows. i am a great fan of British comedy as you can tell already, and i believe that shows like this are a credit to our society, i will definitely be buying this series and any other that follow on DVD.
