First of all, not anyone can watch this. It is gore, ruthless and pretty much surprising. If you were shocked by Attack on Titans when it comes to loving characters and witness their descent or death, this is probably be your worst nightmare. This anime is not a sad anime but it would never be a happy one. Why ? Because everything in it makes sense in the human paradox, torn between emotions we are all going through. This anime is, for me, an incredible experience. The first part of the season is bloody but can easily get lost between many others that are way more disgusting. However, the second part of Elfen Lied shows us the monsters we can all be. You can feel some awkwardness or unease, and then your heart stopping from beating.Roller-coaster of emotions, Elfen Lied is the only anime i cried badly during an episode and i could never forget how interesting and shocking this anime is. The gore is facade, human representation is the true horror here.

Very complex story about a race of powerful mutant beings, represented by the Diclonius Queen,Lucy. Accursed by a corporation that is headed by a betrayer of humanity-Lucy escapes her captors. Pushed beyond the brink of emotional endurance in her childhood by human cruelty, Lucy uses her powers to commit horrible murders. Including the family of the one who will become her greatest friend. This series is somewhat altered and condensed from the original manga. In the end, Lucy is redeemed by unconditional love. I watched the last episode over and over. The series also contains a few really good comedy scenes of day to day life as her counterpart, Nyu.I'm trying to not totally spoil the series for those of you who have never watched it. So this is all of the detail I am going to go into. But I do want to make it clear that the gory parts are not just there frivolously.Lynn Okamoto is genius at story telling. I have never seen an anime I liked more!

I have to say, this is by far one of the better anime I've watched over the years. It's got action, drama, and a great story. This anime has stuck with me for the better part of three years now, and is still among my favourites, the only reason I'm rating it this so low is because it could have done so much more by simply following the manga, it, along with Code Geass, being the only form of entertainment that has actually jerked a tear filled response from meNever the less, it is still very much worth the watch, and I highly recommend it, along with its manga counterpart, if you want more than what the anime brings to the table, as they differ significantly after the 11th or 12th episode, or in the later part of volume 6 in the manga.

I seriously don't know why this anime is rated so high. I have no problem with material that is meant to be dark and violent, the problem is that this show takes it way too far, to the point where it is no longer depressing, but ridiculous and hysterical at times. There was a fight scene where a girl got both her arms and her legs ripped off, and I couldn't help but be reminded of the Black Knight in Monty Python. The story is not deep, and basically just goes from one shocking scene to the next. I don't think the creators realized that when you do that too much, it is no longer shocking and it simply comes to be expected. Every character also has some terrible tragedy in their past to go along with all the terrible things going on during the show.In the end, this show failed at delivering a sad or dramatic experience, and just went way overboard into the territory of hilarity. It's not completely unwatchable and I could see the appeal of the show due to the animation and fight scenes.
