Adaptation they say can be the hardest struggle to endure, sometimes most people aren't welcome for it or unready due to how use we are to certain settings and customs; but that's the biggest part of the test which not just determines whether you can survive or not but who you real are as a species. This is another under the radar sci-fi gem which has been both underrated and taken before it's time, which I feel is a real shame because this show I feel is on of the best examples of the final frontier sub-genre in sci-fi.I really do love the premise which I think is a great idea that I haven't really seen much, which is basically on futuristic pioneers whom crashed onto alien world are on a quest to both survive and live and colonize the alien world. So it's pretty much "Lord of the Flies" but in space which is really cool. The music is good, I really love the theme song which is one of my favorite themes that I feel is underrated. It just has an adventurous and almost epic tone to it. The effects are also really good, it's true that some of the CGI effects in the show look kinda dated but this was made in the 90's what do you expect. However the effects that actually impressed me are in the make up of the aliens which are all practical and still hold up today further proving why it's a practice that should become extinct. The aliens look real, there is a diversity to them, from the Grendliers, but my favorite are the Terrians whom are humanoid shaped creatures that look like their slightly formed from parts of the earth sort of like with DC comics character "Swamp Thing".However what really makes the show work is in it's multi focused and in depth story format which kinda predates the show "Lost" let alone it's plot which is uncannily similar. But this format really makes each of the character three dimensional and surprising feel like actually people because their all fish out of water not just struggle to adapt to their surroundings, but also their dilemmas and the new roles they have to discover and play for themselves in the fold of things; as well as brings depth to the world they came from and the world their on now. Each episode is at times almost like a mystery, were always trying to figure out not just what will happen next but what the character/s are about to do next. I even like how each of them grow and evolve a little as the show goes on, which make them more human and even better than before, it sort of breaks that stand still syndrome that most fictional characters had.All of the characters I really like, their all unique and stand out especially the two kid characters True and Ulysses (ironic name if you remember what "The Odyssey" was about) both were great because they felt and acted like real kids and not some annoying stereotypes, plus they have a good back and forth. Though my favorite character is John Danzeger played well by Clancy Brown whom is an actor I really like. He's a blue collar, rough neck type of character. He's a single dad that is taking care of his daughter in the best way he knows how. He the kind of guy that doesn't really obey orders or not so much, mainly likes to obey his own orders. The show has a lot of themes like man and their difficult relationship to nature, civility vs. savagery, adaptation, and ethical boundaries.I think the biggest shame about this show was that it didn't become the next big thing it set itself out to be. If it did have a season or two more, we could of seen other alien species and other features of Earth 2, may'be some more depth on what more happened on the original Earth, have a few new characters, a few more flash forward episodes, but also there was this business on these secret factions which revolved in the series may'be they'd come down to Earth 2 and the Eden group would then have to go to war against them with the help of other alien species to defend their planet from hostile takeover. I know these are wild theories but that's my point the show really could of gone further, there could of been so much more. This show is an idea that I feel deserves a revival, with today's technology and budget it can be done. Earth 2 is a planet worth exploring.Rating: 3 stars

I did not like this series. This was supposed to be a sci-fi show but turned out to be a combination of poor acting, romance, and left-winged liberal propaganda and other new-age junk. It is no surprise to me it ended in just one season. People do not watch sci-fi for romance and the other stupidity this show offered. This show was a waste of time. Why anyone would make a science fiction show like this and then turn it into a Harlequin romance is beyond me. No one cares about the abstractness that this show offered. The leader of this group was anything but a leader. In fact she was the worst leader I have seen. The women were made up like they had just come back from Glamor Shots, including the 10 year old, a here they are out in the wilderness living in tents. Very stupid.

With all the series being reborn (V, Bionic Woman, Battlestar Gallactica, etc), this is one series that deserves a second chance. In my opinion, the Terrains were the best so-called alien race ever created. The characters and amazing actors in the series definitely deserved additional seasons.Today, with so few really good writers left with creative imaginations, viewers are left with new shows which were imagined by other writers. This is also true for movies and sadly, I doubt it will get better in the years to come. More and more movies and series will be redone as a result. If you haven't seen Earth 2, I encourage you to rent or buy the DVDs. Its better than any show currently on TV or likely to be in the near future. To producers out there, bring this one back!!

I am rather surprised at the positive reviews this series is getting, I liked Tim Curry in the opening four episodes, but other than that, it did nothing for me and I think it deserves to remain lost in space. However, I am often driven by star quality, Curry is a star, a show needs someone I can zero in on every week, if I don't like the cast I am tuning out, as I did after Curry left, so maybe all the sophisticated elements of the series went over the head of my Irwin Allen-tragic-mind?However, I have noted that comments are often going on distant memories of the series rather than recent viewings. The series is now playing on YouTube, take another look guys, I don't know about anyone else but I can't think of a more boring start to a series than the first few minutes of that Earth 2 first episode.Other 1990s TV shows, such as Sliders, also had shades of Irwin Allen...The Time Tunnel. While seaQuest DSV was rooted in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.
