I sort of expected more from this, but as it is, it's pretty entertaining, and most of the songs are instantly catchy and able to be sang out loud, not to mention pretty memorable. The three leads are great, especially Fillion though, who really marvels in his character's darkness and gleefulness, reminding us of his Firefly character but also giving that sort of role a different spin. He's a very underrated actor who I wish would get more work. Patrick Harris, though, is the best singer and probably has the best songs. Some of the turns in its final act are pretty surprising, and not at all what I'm sure many expect (well, maybe from Joss Whedon).

Kimberly Kmit Peter Faziani Eng- 151 November 15, 2012 Dr. Horrible's Horrible Short Blog I personally felt that Dr. Horrible sing along blog was silly. There were three main characters in the blog. Dr. Horrible who poses as an evil scientist, Captain Hammer who poses as the good guy, AKA, superhero and Penny who is comes across as very immature. Penny appears to be, very easily persuaded by others. The blog comes across kind of childish. Dr. Horrible wants to pull off a heist to obtain the wonderflonium which is the final piece he needs to complete his freeze ray gun. Dr. Horrible wants to stop time so he can take over the world, and be admired by his evil hero Bad Horse. Dr. Horrible has a terrible crush on Penny, whom he see's often at a local laundry mat but is too shy to introduce himself and talk with her. It seems rather silly for an evil scientist to be a character that is too shy to talk with a girl. Dr. Horrible was right in the middle of his heist for the wonderflonium, when Penny approaches him asking for his assistance regarding a homeless shelter that requires so many signatures for approval and his shyness looked more like stupidity to me. Captain Hammer swooped in and came across as though he had saved Penny from the fast moving van while throwing Penny into the trash to act as though he was moving her out of harm's way. Which Dr. Horrible was controlling the van with his remote control. Dr. Horrible actually stopped the van.Captain Hammer and Penny started dating and that is when I thought the movie got cheesy. I am not a musical movie watcher so it totally lost my interest at this point. Captain Hammer started to try and portray himself as a hero who does good things for people. I see him as being stuck on himself. Looking at himself and flexing his muscles. Captain Hammer's whole personality came across fake to me. I guess because I really do not care for people of that nature maybe it turned me off the entire short movie. The movie just seemed immature to me. It only seemed to get worse as it went on. All the people acting like he was some big hero and for what? What did he really do? I really did not see what he did that made him such a big hero. I thought the ending was sad. I really did not see Penny dieing as the way the blog would end and Dr. Horrible acting like nothing else mattered without her. I have watched worse movies but I would never watch it again just because. This review is my opinion and I am sure there are people who enjoyed it.

Combining two seemingly discordant movie themes such as a theatrical, offbeat musical and a superhero flick may seem like cinematic suicide to some, but Joss Whedon's low-budget production Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog meshes the two genres seamlessly, creating something new and enjoyable for both musical and superhero fans, alike.Dr. Horrible, played by Neil Patrick Harris, is portrayed as a sad excuse for a villain, as his values are genuine and his attempts at badness are mostly foiled. Despite his poor attempts at being a super villain, Horrible's ultimate dream is being initiated into a clan of notorious villains called the Evil League of Evil, headed by the most terrible villain of all, Bad Horse, who is quite literally a terrible flesh and blood steed. Dr. Horrible records his feeble evil efforts on an online blog where he reveals his latest evil attempts and his unwavering love for a girl named Penny, portrayed by Felicia Day, who he has quietly adored from afar at the local Laundromat. Amidst one of Dr. Horrible's "evil" heists, he is surprised to find himself face-to-face with Penny, but is consumed by his need to conquer the evil feat at hand. When Horrible's heist goes awry, he accidentally introduces Penny to his longtime cocky, ridiculous hero nemesis, Captain Hammer, played by Nathan Fallion. When pretentious love ensues between Penny and Captain Hammer, Dr. Horrible holds back his bitter contempt for Captain Hammer, and grows close to Penny. Horrible then learns that in order to secure his spot in the Evil League of Evil, he must do the unthinkable – he must kill someone. Will his attempt go terribly amiss, per usual? Every step of the way we're presented with catchy, simplistic and clever songs dotted with awkward and effective humor with lines such as, "So I thank my girlfriend Penny. Yea, we totally had sex. She showed me there's so many different muscles I can flex. There's the deltoids of compassion, there's the abs of being kind!" Anyone who appreciates quirky, comedic music such as the melodies created by Flight of the Conchords will surely enjoy the songs of Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog. While the music is contagious and fun, the singing is a little cacophonous at times. Neil Patrick Harris can surely carry a tune, but he is wise to not quite his day job. The musical imperfections accompanied by poor lighting, unsteady camera shots, and poor special effects may ruffle the feathers of a conventional box office hit- loving movie goer. However, both the musical and technical impurities greatly compliment the other aspects of the movie, giving it a realistic spin. Joss Whedon succeeded in kicking up the dust over the conventional, serious, overly computer generated superhero genre with the creation of Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog. It's a delightful movie which I predict, in time, will easily take a seat between Clerks and Mystery Men in the great collection of cult classic films.

"Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" created by Joss Whedon is an action- packed musical with lots of humor. The main character, "Dr. Horrible" is a super villain who acts like a normal person but has a plan to "rule the world" with Penny, a woman he loves at the local laundromat. He plans to do this by freezing time with his freeze ray. And his other goal as a villain is to join The Evil League of Evil led by their infamous leader "Bad Horse." His arch nemesis named Captain Hammer is the only true threat in completing his crime in order to join the Evil League of Evil. Dr. Horrible's dilemma is that he loves Penny and wants to join the Evil League of Evil at the same time. When he makes an attempt to rob the delivery van with "Wonderflonium" in it for his freeze ray, Penny unexpectedly asks him to sign a petition to help the homeless. The act of Horrible doing something evil like robbing a van grabbed my attention and made me want to know what happens next. When people help the homeless like Penny does, it makes you care for them. I enjoyed the scene where Horrible tries to commit a crime. The acting of being evil was done well. I also found Horrible's blogs to be hilarious. The name "Wonderflonium" is silly and comical. Back at his lair, The Evil League of Evil calls Horrible and tells him that the only way he can join is to kill someone. At the laundromat, Billy asks Penny some questions, and she tells him that she is dating his nemesis Hammer. Then Penny introduces her boyfriend to Horrible. Hammer teases Horrible about not getting Penny. I found it funny when Hammer acts like Horrible is not a big threat to him and beats him up. Compared to the Sound of Music musical, I found this musical to be more entertaining. I think this musical is better than the Sound of Music because it not as serious. This movie was full of action and comedy. The acting was good because they made the stunts seem real especially in the scene where Horrible gets beat up by Hammer. Also, the characters make you want to care for them like Penny. And a twist on the usual good guy versus bad guy movie, I wanted to root for the bad guy. Dr. Horrible says that he has "A PhD in Horribleness!" Who wouldn't want their catchphrase to be like that? This movie is really enjoyable to watch and I would highly recommend this to all of my friends.
