Synopsis

Taking place on Kongo Bongo Island, the show focuses on Donkey Kong, the island's resident hero. Before the series' events, he was chosen as the island's future ruler by a magical artifact known as the Crystal Coconut, which is connected to a spirit known as Inka Dinka Doo. In the present, Donkey Kong must prove he deserves the role through his heroics and by simply guarding the coconut. Alongside various allies such as his best friend and sidekick Diddy Kong and his mentor Cranky Kong, he must protect the Crystal Coconut from various threats, most notably the villainous King K. Rool and his Kremling army who long to steal it in order to rule Kongo Bongo. Oftentimes, Donkey Kong has to juggle his guardian duties with his social life, his relationship with Candy Kong, and his love of gorging on bananas.

ukt-68184 This animated series from 1997 is everything I ever wanted, and can definitely be enjoyed by both hard-core fans of the Donkey Kong franchise, and the people lookng for a fun animated series. The characters are in my opinion part of what makes this show so great. The diverse mix of both male and female characters and their different personalities and attributes makes every episode dynamic. We have the main character Donkey Kong (DK), who in my opinion is the best (and hottest) character with his charismatic personality, cool abilities, catchphrase (Banana Slamma) and internal confilcts about how he wants to spend his life. This inner conflict is made clear in the episode "Double Date Trouble" where Donkey Kong has to choose between his social life with his all-time best friend Diddy Kong, his romantic relationship with Candy Kong, and his life as the protector of Kongo Bongo. Diddy Kong is a solid side character with a lot of personality that in the beginning mostly is used as a tool to make DK share his thoughts and emotions with the audience in their private conversations. Candy Kong is a really hot female side character that acts as DK's romantic interest in the series. She adds a layer to every episode as DK now has to maintain his relationship with her on top of protecting Kongo Bongo from danger. Cranky Kong is in my opinion the second best character. He's lovable, yet serious when he has to protect Kongo Bongo, and he has a lot of knowledge that helps the main characters. The crystal coconut, which is under his protection is used by him to move the plot forward in a good way. The coconut also has a set of diverse magical powers that fit perfectly into this series as it creates unique situations that are enjoyable to watch. Other characters include the coolest character, Funky Kong, the narcissistic Bluster Kong, the main cast's friend Dixie Kong, and the main villain: Kinky Rule, a crocodile who wants to steal the crystal coconut to make him the king of Kongo Bongo. I am also happy the creators chose to cast both Apes and Crocodiles, as it gives the show more diversity.Regarding the animation of the series, I just think it's amazing. The character models are details and the movement is fluid. I also respect the desicion to make the series in 3D. Small details also make the series stand out, like the expansion of pupils to express certain emotions. The animation doesn't ruin the energy of the most exciting scenes, such as the fight scenes, and everything feels very real. The voice acting is also spot-on.The episodes aren't very formulated, which is very good as it gives the series variation. Some episodes focus on the struggle to protect the crystal coconut, while other episodes are about the personal struggles of Donkey Kong and the people around him. One thing that is consistent in nearly every episode, however, is the appearence of music numbers sung by different characters of the series. The singing voice of Donkey Kong specifically is stellar, and the melody, lyrics and dance moves are brilliant as well. The most important song of the series, the theme song, is also great, if not the best of the songs. It is energetic, catchy, and shows what the average viewer should expect from the series, perfection. Not only that, but the climaxes, specifically the fighting scenes are great and energetic, and are often in some way unique, which makes every fight worth watching."Donkey Kong Country: The animated series" is an amazing animated series and will fulfill the expectations of any viewer. The animation, voice acting, and storytelling is stellar, and the dynamic character interactions between the likable and deep characters makes the series worth a watch. The series gives you everything: Romance, Humour, Action and Music through a set of varying storylines. I really can't find anything negative to say about this series, and will give it a solid 10 out of 10 rating. By far the best Nintendo animated series.
The_Light_Triton It's hard to describe whether this show was good, or bad. it was kind of stupid to say the least. Particularly "The legend of the crystal coconut" which was a VHS that had 4 episodes, in bad chronological order. However, it delivered a donkey Kong feel, and i won't lie, i heavily dislike musicals (unless they have music that was written by either Slayer or Iron Maiden) but some of the songs throughout the shows were catchy, Particularly "Booty Booty" and "Big Bog Monster" and "the mirror never lies" (which reminded me of System of a down. I can't believe i can make that kind of reference.) Anyways, Donkey Kong is a fun loving ape who seems to screw things up or do something wrong at the beginning of the episode and then has to right his wrongs, with the help of his nephew (or "little buddy" as he constantly calls him) Diddy Kong. Every now and then, his friend Funky Kong, his guardian, Cranky Kong, and his love interest, Candy Kong, make appearances, But they're not much more than just characters. DK's mistakes usually end him up fighting King. K. Rool, with his bumbling right-hand Krocs, Klump and Krusha. but in some episodes, different enemies have come around, such as Captain Scurvy and his first and second mates.I remember watching "The legend of the Crystal coconut" how many times when i was 10, and how i remember my dad eyeing the special effects (which were really good) the show had an engaging story for a guy at that age and it was Nintendo's character, so just watching donkey Kong for an hour and a few minutes was entertaining.Nowadays, i'd recommend this to someone between the age of 7 to 10 who's really into Nintendo, because that's all it will appeal to. anyone younger won't really get it, and anyone older will be laughing at how stupid some of it is.
Koneko1 I'm a fan of the Donkey Kong games, so I was kind of excited when I saw they'd made this into a show. I'd had great experiences with my other favorite video game heroes, Earthworm Jim and Sonic the Hedgehog.Sadly, I found myself disappointed with the show. It was made for younger audiences, which can always lower a rating with older fans. I accepted the overall plot of K. Rool being after the Crystal Coconut. It was kind of corny, but I could get past that. Now, as much as I love music, I believe that having a song in pretty much every episode slowed things down. DK's voice actor had a lovely singing voice, yes, but the singing (in my opinion) got in the way of things. They usually had poor lyrics too. The dialogue wasn't the greatest either, but it wasn't horrid. My major complaint is that I wasn't happy with how some of the characters were dealt with. I didn't mind the addition of Bluster, though I think they went overboard with his character flaws. I didn't mind the absence of certain characters. I simply would have liked to see them come in and do something or other. The only one I really wished would have made it was Wrinkly Kong. Actually, the only two characters I had a problem with were Candy and Dixie. I didn't mind Candy's design change. It might bother most fans of the game, but I took it as an improvement. Her personality lacked severely though. I doubt the Candy from the games was the smartest cookie in the cracker barrel, but at least she was helpful and kind. The Candy in this show is essentially useless, bossy and annoyingly shallow. She was a bit of a control freak too.Dixie wasn't much better. I could accept the change in design, even if I didn't care for it. Again, it was personality that really got to me. She lost her pizazz. She was much more passive and bland. She had no spunk, and for some reason lost her animals on a continuous basis. (What did she do to those animals, anyway?) Dixie was one of my favorite characters from the game, so it was disheartening to see such an extreme change that wasn't for the better. I'm not sure why they limited themselves. Had they kept her original spunk, they could have had so many more opportunities for show ideas.King K. Rool and the Kremlings also become fairly blah in the show. They were a bit on the dippy side. I know that was done because they wanted to aim the show at younger audiences, but I still don't care for the changes.I didn't hate the show. I watched it. I was merely disappointed in it. People who are huge fans of the video games and would throw a fit if any injustice were done to it should steer clear of this show. It strays from the video game a little too much. (I know in some cases they need to stray a little to make it work.) Those unfamiliar with the games or are only "meh" fans might like it, or just not care one way or another.
