mandoblaster Easily one of the funniest TV shows of all time. 'Clunesy' is just priceless as the Doc, and never has such a dry lifeless character been so funny. The rest of the cast are also seasoned performers and slot well into their characters, with the exception of the PC Penhale character who is just irritating and rarely funny. My only criticism of the show is that most of the actors sound like they are from Bristol - their Cornish accents are shocking - they'd just as well play the characters without an accent rather than insult the Cornish accent - although Ian McNeice has got it just about right for the Port Isaac area - :)
amaranthann Doc Martin is HIGHLY enjoyable, the character's are endearing, the episodes all great stories. I really miss Marc the original PC, but the agoraphobic, narcoleptic PC Joe is also lovable. I am sorry that Auntie Joan had to pass, but am enjoying her replacement. I hope this show goes on and on. The village, Portwinn, is breathtakingly beautiful, Cornwall is so lovely! This show is very refreshing, and I enjoy quite a few belly laughs when watching! I love quite a few British shows, and when perusing on Netflix, I look for British made shows first and foremost knowing they will be VERY good! Netflix currently offers only 46 of the Doc Martin episodes, and I am delighted to find out that there are more to see and more to come!
Kaptain Bluddflagg I started watching this show recently and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters are interesting and have a lot of depth, the writing is both sharp and subtle. The only complaints that I have about the show is that the first two receptionists are basically the same character, the second more fleshed out than the first, and they are both horrible, despicable people. So bad, in fact, that I nearly stopped watching because of the second. The only other complaint that I have is that there is very little actual development for the main character. Doctor Ellingham more or less stays exactly the same throughout the whole show, only coming out of his shell to say something about his feelings at precisely the right time to keep his on again off again love interest from fleeing. He doesn't grow as a person as much as he reacts to whatever the latest bit of drama is, and while I love his character I find it hard to believe that he is so incapable of changing. Even a small change would be nice, but then I suspect that the show might have to change its focus a bit too much. All in all, I highly recommend this show, but if you are like me be prepared to be frustrated by irritating assistants and lack of growth from the main character.
cosmax10 I love British shows, but the characters have been done to death in the usual village scene with quirky personalities. I just don't find the characters realistic and I don't believe anyone with that personality would be interested in entering a field where you have to navigate people and interact with them, and I can't imagine villagers putting up with him. I think all the actors and actress are fine and play their parts as scripted. I haven't seen Martin Clune in anything else,so have nothing to compare him to, but given his character, and what he is, he portrays him well and does not veer off course where his personality is concerned. I have seem much better British shows and I think it is just a matter of personal preference and what you consider funny or good.
