This series popped up on Hulu recently, and I had to give it a try after seeing that Elijah Wood was in the cast. My first thought when I started watching was this seemed a bit like Dr. Who but even wackier. I admit I didn't have a clue at first that this was written by the same author as Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and some of the Dr. Who episodes. After reading about the series, I said, Aha!! Everything is connected, and I understand now, since the books were written by Douglas Adams. I am really glad I stuck with it. Elijah Wood was a big part of why I stuck with it at first though. But I enjoyed many aspects of the series including the many interesting characters. I was intrigued with Amanda (Elijah's sister) and the Rowdy 3 (who were actually 4+). When the Rowdy 3 threw a brick through Amanda's window that had a note that said "Hi", I was hooked again. Then there is the holistic assassin character and so many others that hooked me again and again. To say the plot was bizarre is an understatement, but I just enjoyed riding along with my favorite characters to see what happened next and what was next in their personal stories. I was excited to see Alan Tudyk pop up in season 2. He was in the cast of Firefly, which was another great character driven unusual series that I enjoyed. I was sad that season 2 would be the last. I will say though that they neatly wrapped up almost everything at the end of season 2 and just left a few possibilities hanging out there. I read that the audience wasn't large enough to continue.
I admit I look for unusual and interesting character driven shows. I wish more out there did, so these types of shows could get a larger audience. This one definitely was a fun binge ride on Hulu.

I really liked that serie, the plot goes super convoluted but then ends up making more or less sense. It's one of those shows where the universe's rules are crazy and twisted, but are respected.
The reliance on random coincidences, normally a sign of a very poor scenario design, makes total sense here.
Overall, a great show, for season 1 and 2

Idly flicking through Netflix looking for something a little different I stumbled across this gem! And couldn't wait for the second series, which like the first didnt disappoint. It teased for a third series, screamed for a fourth and could have been a true great. Instead the powers that be decided not.Dirk gently holistic detective agency is simply brilliant and anyone who hasn't seen it, it's a must as there has never really been anything like it before and now I fear there be nothing like it again. The characters are amazing as is the acting and stories! I emplore some network out there to carry this on and don't let Bart sit in the dark forever.
