Synopsis

Dennis Miller Live was a weekly talk show on HBO, hosted by comedian Dennis Miller. The show ran 215 episodes from 1994 to 2002, and received five Emmy awards, plus an additional 11 Emmy nominations. It was also nominated six times for the Writers Guild of America Award for "Best Writing For A Comedy/Variety Series", and won three of those times. The show was the brainstorm of HBO honcho Michael Fuchs, who told Miller he could use any forum he wanted as long as he brought in the numbers. It was directed by Debbie Palacio for most of its run, and head writers were first Jeff Cesario and then Eddie Feldmann. Other writers included José Arroyo, Rich Dahm, Ed Driscoll, David Feldman, Mike Gandolfi, Jim Hanna, Tom Hertz, Leah Krinsky, Rob Kutner, Rick Overton, Jacob Sager Weinstein, and David S. Weiss.

Reviews

oscar-35 *Spoiler/plot- 1994, Rather mad TV show series exploring the celebrity scandals, political subterfuge, social deviance, and Dennis Miller ranting on them righteously to his audience. He also visits with guests on his show to ask them about their views on the week's news.*Special Stars- Dennis Miller and guests.*Theme- Look at the world events critically and you will understand and only laugh at life's troubles by seeing the funny side of life.*Based on- Dennis Miller's stand-up and his SNL comedy performances.*Trivia/location/goofs- This is a live audience show, uncensored, and a topical look at the events of the week as surveyed by one of the most acerbic, witty comedians working today. This show was nominated for TV's 'Emmy" and ran many years on HBO cable.*Emotion- This film provides us with an experience of Dennis Miller at the height of his career and is a special film for anyone to watch. This film was full of great thoughts and features show guests that are seldom seen on any other TV show due to Miller's popularity. Miller shows us a feel good movie.
Inliten We didn't get HBO until a couple of years ago, but since we've had the channel, we've watched Dennis Miller. The guy is sharp as a tack, and a lot of fun to listen to. Sure, he's a little on the pedantic and self-important side, but not to the point that it gets annoying. It was nice to see many of the re-runs that HBO would show throughout the week, and it's a shame that the show was canceled. Of course, I'll take Bill Maher's show over Miller's any day.
LOTON1542 For those of you who have never had the pleasure of witnessing the 30 minute phenomenon that is DENNIS MILLER LIVE I frankly feel sorry for you, because you are missing out on such an amazing show. Dennis Miller has done for talk shows what is long overdue. He has given a completley different feel to the ever growing stale talk show. Dennis Miller and his staff have found a way to do what every other talk show has not yet done, cut through all the sugarcoating and started to tell it like it is.Not only does Mr. Miller beautifully mesh brilliant writting with a unrestricted(we owe ya one there HBO)but tastefull dialogue with topics that are actually interesting and not superficial like we see on so many other shows. I cant for the life of me figure out why he has not won every award for writting there is. While Dennis Miller Live is not lacking in humor, taste or just plain old fashion fun I do have a couple of complaints. For starters its only 30 minutes long. There has not been a time when I have not been sad to see the show end. If it were up to me it would be a minimum of 60 minutes. My second complaint is that they have not yet devoted a channel for Dennis Miller. Im talking 24/7 of all Dennis all the time. Trust me on this. Its a good idea. For closers,, if you do not have HBO I suggest you get it and if for no other reason get it for Dennis Miller Live, but if you can't go to your nearest bookstore and pick up his books. He has three of them.1) I rant therefore I am 2)The rants and last 3)Still ranting. These books contain the opening monologue wich in my opinion are the best part. Do your self a favor if you havent already and start exposing yourself to Dennis Miller Live. You wont be disappointed. Of course thats just my opinion and trust me Im not wrong.
cheeseboy80 This show is much better than Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Conan O'Brien because it's on HBO. On HBO, there's no limits. You can do anything you want on HBO. The only problem I have with this show is it's only on 30 minutes. I think the show should be on longer than that. What about 60 minutes??
