Lynn731 I am a retired deputy sheriff, and watch about every law enforcement related show on TV. While I like several a lot, Cold Case is the best law enforcement related program ever shown. Fortunately I can watch 4 episodes, 3 days a week on an over the air channel from Kansas City. The writer and producer, Meridith Stiehm has done other notable police shows, such as NYPD Blue, an excellent program. Still Cold Case is the best. The actors are great, the music score is usually tied to the date of the homicide case they are working. The best part, besides the legwork and good detective work that solves the cases, is the frequent showing of the people involved as they look now, and how they looked when the homicide was committed. All of these things contribute to the overall greatness of the show. I haven't seen another TV show that I like better, except for the 20 years of Gunsmoke which I am addicted to. Meridith Stiehm brings all of the elements that make the show unique, together. I wish I knew why the show was canceled. Another thing is I love music and I have found some wonderful songs I never knew existed until I heard them on Cold Case!
Dimitris - well, in many American police series, there is the same problem: the disrespect for civil rights. Suspects are beaten, lawyers are a problem etc. But in this series, "cold case", the disrespect for rights is at maximum: during the whole series, during all seasons, you will not find even a single episode where appears a lawyer! When a suspect asks for lawyer, the usual answer from any of the detectives is: "why? you have something to hide?" and the suspect does not insist. So do not wait to see any lawyer in the series-you will not find one. Furthermore, the detectives violate any right, beating suspects, creating false evidence, doing whatever they want without any fear. Its simply a fascist series. Made to influence anyone who watches, to the fact that police detectives can do whatever they like, without any control. Its a fascist series, worst from any other.
enesbuladi I first watched this show 2 years ago. First I liked it but then the way the detectives solve the case bored me.Think about it, the only way in every episode is to chat with suspects.First they have a name which the detectives think is the murderer. The suspect says that he isn't and points on somebody else. And the detectives suddenly believe that the pointed one is the murderer.Detective: Hey Mike, you killed Anna 87 years ago. We found your fingerprints on something. Mike: I wish I killed her but I did not. But Anna's husband Tim had a friend, named Joshua. He and Anna were fighting in the middle of the street. Detective: Really? Wow.After a while...Detective: Hey Joshua, I think you killed your best friends wife Anna. How could you? Joshua: She was a hot chick but I swear I didn't killed her. Detective: Then why did you fight with her in the middle of the street. I got you. Joshua: I was in love with her. I was trying to convince her for a divorce. Detective: Why would you do that. Joshua: His husband Tim was beating her. Detective: OMG. Lets go to Tim.After a while...Detective: You sick monster Tim, how could you. We think you killed your wife. Tim: No I didn't. Detective: Shut up! You were beating her, we know that. Tim: I was trying to dump her. But she was in love with me. She wouldn't let me go. Detective: She was in love with you? OMG. So Joshua was in love with Anna. He was trying to convince Anna for a divorce. And you say Anna was in love with you and wouldn't go. OMG. That makes Joshua a cold blooded jealous murderer. After a while...Detective: Joshua we think you murdered Anna because she wouldn't leave her husband. You butcher! You make us sick. Joshua: Yes I did it. But you know why? Because I loved her, I really loved her. That sick Tim didn't deserved her. Detective: Shut up, we solved the cold case.So that's an average Cold Case story. The detectives need no evidence, no computer, because they can make every murderer confess their crime. There is no lie in Cold Case universe. Every single criminal confesses his crime at the end. There is no escape. And even if someone is 197 years old, he can remember every single thing about an 185 years old incident. I wonder what they eat to have a healthy life like that.
mrsowenwilson I love this show for several reasons...First,I grew up in Philly. They get the names, places, ethnic backgrounds etc, SPOT ON.The story lines are terrific. Most unusual for a cop show, the majority of their interviews are non-confrontative, leaving the detectives to piece out what happened based on a combination of matching discrepancies, gut instinct, and often the perp's desire to just have it over with after all these years. The music often lends an additional level of sadness and poignancy. I'm not sentimental by nature, but I confess there were several endings that left me in tears, like "The Runner" when Lilly brings back the old addict to the woman whose late husband wanted to adopt her. I tear up just thinking about it.And this may seem an odd point, but it's actually a compliment. Unlike, say, CSI Miami, these people don't look like they just stepped off a modeling shoot. Kathryn Morris is quite pretty, but not so much that it would intimidate your average woman to go get botoxed: she's just naturally cute. Ditto Danny Pino; he's attractive but not to the point where more regular-looking guys wouldn't invite him out for a beer. They also lead more regular lives than most TV characters: a few have or had wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, and kids. In addition to work, they also deal with the same stuff most of us do every day.In short, the show works beautifully and is truly original. Great acting, writing, and consistency. Suurprised no Emmys have come its way.
