Synopsis

Canadian Idol was a Canadian reality television competition show which aired on CTV, based on the British show Pop Idol. The show was a competition to find the most talented young singer in Canada, and was hosted by Ben Mulroney. Jon Dore was the "roving reporter" for the first three seasons. Elena Juatco assumed the role for season four, Dave Kerr had the role in season five and Jully Black in season six. The show began with a cross-Canada tour in which singers audition in front of four judges: Jake Gold of Toronto, Sass Jordan of Montreal, Quebec, Zack Werner of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Farley Flex of Ajax, Ontario. Eventually the performers were narrowed down to 10 finalists, with each competitor performing live. Viewers had two hours following the broadcast of the show to phone in their votes for their favourite competitor. On the following night's episode, the competitor with the fewest votes was sent home. After the final two perform, viewers had more than two hours to vote. The next day, the competitor with the most votes was declared the winner. The show was taped at the John Bassett Theatre in Toronto, Ontario.

Reviews

kristyn_22 This season was absolutely spectacular! I've seen American Idol, and i didn't want to give Canadian Idol a chance. I was sure it was going to be a waste of time, like almost every other Canadian-based show we have. I was completely blown away with how wrong i was... with this particular season anyway. It was jam-packed with talent and hilarity, two very important factors, I'm sure, in the show's ultimate success. I was especially impressed with Canada's ability to distinguish between real, original talent and your everyday excellent performance. The top 3 easily proves our country's ability to do just that, having Jacob, Theressa and Kalan - all of whom have very original voices. Even though Kalan won, all three of the finalists developed equally impressive careers for themselves afterward, something American Idol has yet to accomplish. Besides the amazing talent this season, there was definitely other memorable moments (especially involving Jacob's comedic antics) that further proved that this season of Canadian Idol was definitely the best season, in any country, thus far.
curositykiller The only way this show can flop is if this guy does not win. I find that he is the best every week. I mean Mikey Bustos sucked I am glad he is gone, Toya Alexis sucked I am gad she is gone, Tyler Hamilton was better than Jenny Gear, why is he gone and she's still there?Looks like Canada are just as bad at voting as the Americans.
PrincessStephani I watched both American Idol's (well I didn't follow the second season as well as I did the first season.) And I even watch American Juniors. I was so happy to hear that Canada was doing Canadian Idol, and couldn't wait for the show to air. When it did, I was not disappointed. I love how they even got a 'Simon' on this show too. I love how they don't sugar coat everything they say as Paula Abdul did.. And... that's all I have to say!
Tony_West I watched and enjoyed American Idol, so I was skeptical that the Canadian version could improve on the formula, but they totally have. The show is smarter, funnier, and more touching too - plus the Canadian competitors seem to be way more talented. I especially love that Jon Dore guy - he's hilarious! And Ben Mulroney is surprisingly funny too - his voiceover comments constantly crack me up. I can't wait to see who wins it - I already have a few favorites!
