Andrew Beard I am extremely disappointed with the new series of Benidorm. I have enjoyed watching earlier series as the characters were engaging and funny. As the series progressed the comedy got better and the characters story's became very watchable. This trend has completely disappeared with series 8-10. Some of the characters are still enjoyable and funny to watch especially the ever funny Mateo and the lovable Liam. For starters Lesley has got nothing left to give and I feel extremely sorry for Tim Healey who has played the part so well up until now, it seems to me that writers just have nothing new left to give him. Kenneth has just become a laughable joke it is the same thing over and over again. The main family the Dawson's just aren't funny and never have been since they were put in to replace the oh so funny Garveys (they should never have left) the Dad and grandad have just become letchs over their sons girlfriend who was underused. The constant letch fest over the first half of the series is ridiculous, I especially couldn't stand the awful Loretta who is just so unfunny I turn away every time she's on screen as the rubbish that comes out of her mouth is unbearable. The rubbish that she utters is mind numbing and the characterisation is awful. The absolutely ridiculous Pauline is back yet again pissed every time she's on screen which just makes her unwatchable, she has nothing new to give. Monty and Temple Savages relationship is just utter boredom, same jokes every week and nothing new to give. Boring dialogue, unfunny jokes, overused sexual innuendos and over acting and under acting of the worst kind have absolutely ruined what was a very good series for 7 years. Well done to the Benidorm writers for absolute killing the series dead. I will not be tuning in again !!
David White (dawh1) I am an American and the English-language translator for a Spanish novelist who lives in Benidorm and works in the hotel industry. I have visited my friend four times and I think I know Benidorm fairly well, though I have never stayed in the type of hotel depicted in this series (all-inclusive), nor is it the type where my friend works. I wanted to see this series, but it was not coming in on BBC America, nor could I get it from Netflix. When I tried to buy it from Amazon.uk, they couldn't ship it out of the country. I eventually ordered it sent to an American friend working in the UK and then he shipped it to me. I can see now why the Brits don't want this show seen outside their own country. It shows only the worst type of British tourist, the kind my British friends try to avoid when they travel. (Many Americans are just as bad.) They are crude, vulgar, obnoxious, and if it weren't for captions, I couldn't understand the dialect. Now, having said all that, I have to confess that I've had some laughs. I'm sorry there is only one Spanish character (and he's a stereotype), because I really like Spanish people and I'd like to see more variety. My conclusion is that it's not as bad all the time as it is most of the time.
Greg75 I was really waiting for the DVD to come out, as a big fan of Derren Litten, brilliant actor seen on "The Catherine Tate Show" and who wrote the entire "Benidorm" series (without even getting himself a small part in it !). Well, what a disappointment ! Instead of the sarcastic and subtle humor (though the premises were ideal in that matter) that I was expecting, all I saw was poor & terribly vulgar situations (beyond words AND laughs), ill-directed actors, almost total absence of wit and intelligence. The only nice thing was to see Chrissy Rock again (from Ken Loach's "Ladybird") as the karaoke presenter. Apart from that, nothing. Total vacuum.
David Hicks I am really pleased that this programme has been created. The comedy is based on a bunch of holiday makers in the same hotel in Benidorm, the show follows them with their goings on during their holiday, which in some cases leads to trouble. What I like about the show is that it is not completely based on a few main characters, there are quite a few characters that star in the show, and I really like the casting of Jonny Vegas 'the oracle' who provides much laughter along with the other characters. This is a comedy which in my opinion suit those audiences who enjoy seeing characters making fools of themselves as you might find on a real holiday. I however think that the show could be improved in the fact that it spreads only as far as the hotel area for the entire show. I would like to see the characters wonder into the town and get into trouble as well as the hotel. However I would definitely recommend this programme as it is a real good laugh.
