dannylafontaine13 Batman beyond is a amazing show. but its not for kids. characters have guns and knifes. a guy falls down a building and falls into some acid and his limbs fall off. the joker kills people. and it has a more mature plot to it. with that being said batman beyond is not for kids and is a very good show for teens and adults.
spriiix What really made the series work for me is that the story had a solid backbone. The characters in the series were all well developed and had great dialogue. I don't think the story would have worked for me at all if it didn't have those brief interactions with the side characters.Another thing that really worked for me was the setting. The futuristic world was well built and thought through. The setting felt really believable, because it did little things like introducing new vocabulary, futuristic sports and arcades. However, there was one thing that didn't work for me was the poor science fiction writing. If you know anything about physics, chemistry or biology gets it wrong A Lot, not all the time, but a lot. Since the main audience is kids, maybe it's not a big deal for the most of people, but for me it was something that constantly took me out of the show. All in all, it is a solid version of batman with a great soundtrack and animation and for me personally it is the best animated version of batman. Though if you're into more adult like series with better science, I would recommend you watch "Ghost in the Shell" instead.
OleFr-Skj Yes, that is sort of the concept of "Batman Beyond": a wise-cracking teenager balancing his social life with his superhero responsibilities with a cranky old man yelling at him. All the while being mistrusted by the city at large? That's the Spider-Man we all know and love.Even Terry's rogues gallery is inspired by Spidey's: Stalker is basically a cybernetic Kraven the Hunter, Inque looks visually similar to Venom, Ten of the Royal Flush Gang is the Black Cat and Spellbinder is pretty much a less flamboyant Mysterio.Heck, he even teams up with the "Terrific Trio" a Johnny Storm-less analogy for the Fantastic Four, and his archenemy is an evil GREEN industrialist. But that's the beauty of it. "Batman Beyond" combines two of my favorite things, and in the future no less.Terry McGinnis may not be the best Batman, that'll always be Bruce Wayne, but he is absolutely a worthy successor to Batman. The show may be kid-oriented, but it has its fair share of dark and mature storytelling, because even as a teenager in a kid's show, Batman is still the goddamn Batman.
cheesetothepower A few months ago, I saw the direct to DVD movie for this series. I then watched a few episodes an I have to say that I love it. It has characters that I find interesting, the plots are not rushed in my opinion an the animation is not CGI but drawn unlike many other shows. All I can complain about is that there are so few episodes centering around the relationship between Terry McGinnus, the current Batman of the series and Bruce Wayne, the Batman before him. Their relationship isn't fully strait forward. I also wish that it more than three seasons. It had so much potential. A real shame. Maybe someday soon they'll (any nationwide television network) show reruns in a reasonable hour of the day.
