The good: quick wit, funny, action packed, (theres more fighting in 5 seasons than all of star trek combined) not overloaded with mindless sophistry, full of surprises and turn arounds, VERY original writing, very creative, good mysteries left for later, Lisa Ryder and Kevin Sorbo: GREAT acting. The bad: the other actors? Well they exist. Andromeda was plagued by BAD dialogue that often made no sense or went nowhere, fake tension between crewmembers at times for unbelievable reasons, terrible special effects (until season 5) worthy of a Super Nintendo possibly, not TV. Overuse of flashbacks for filler. (We didn't need to see Dillans first battle with Roddei like 30-40 different times) The explanations for what is happening in any given episode FLIES right by at warp speed before the viewer gets a chance to even think about it. The sets were rather low budget. The ship apparently can get bombarded with everything short of a nova bomb in most episodes with few consequences ever. (although on the last episode there was almost a hull breech, WOH THAT WAS CLOSE!) and the one episode where it does sustain heavy damage from the world ship PSP ripping a hole big enough through the middle of it to park several city buses, the ship later is full operational and ready for battle with no maintenance required and had a wax job I guess while they were waiting. (I guess they just don't build them like they used to) Overall though Andromeda lacked continuity. Spoiler alert: The 1st season, saving the commonwealth, which seemed like it was looking to be an all-show mission was accomplished rather quickly. They hit some kind of mysterious quota and VOILA PRESTO, a divided commonwealth is alive and well and bossing them around? The show takes a huge nosedive from then on in my opinion. Season 5 was meant to be diversionary, was dark, showing that the crew could survive being disbanded but with Dylans leadership, recapture the glory. And then POOF the show couldn't go on for reasons Im still trying to find out and ended abruptly without even showing the enemy fleet get wiped out which was promised. (not even so much as a whisper of a complaint from the abyss guy that is growling at them and making threats every season) It kinda reminded me of a writing a 10 page paper and once u got to that 10th page, u pretty much stopped wherever u were and went and got some pizza. Given more time and better writing, andromeda could've rivaled star trek as a gold standard in scifi. But it was still fun to watch and worthwhile. Thanks for reading.

Andromeda was one of those shows that had real potential - and this showed especially in the first 2 seasons. An interesting cast, generally well written story lines and a mission to reinstate society. But (and I don't know this for a fact), it seems that possibly ego started killing off the show.In the first 2 seasons, stories tended to give each of the characters a chance to shine - equal time given to each. They were fun stories, but well balanced.Season 3 started the rot, when more time seemed to be devoted to just 'Captain Hunt', who seemed to increasingly take over the show. And with the departure of Tyr, the seeds were set to change the show radically. Maybe the character of Tyr wasn't to everyones taste, but his scheming and single mindedness added a counterbalance to Hunt. (Think Kirk & Spock as this is based on a Gene Roddenberry idea). With Tyr gone at the end of season 3, the show essentially changed from 'Andromeda' in a collective sense to just stories about Captain Hunt. And that would be fine, but it also meant that the story lines increasingly centred solely around Hunt. And worse, some of the other characters introduced seemed to hero worship him.................even down to one of the politicians (triumvere if I've spelt that right) later saying 'you're my hero' (fetch the bucket please).Early episodes of season 4 cemented the rot. A previous pilot saying she couldn't stay on Andromeda, because Hunt 'inspired' her to be out in space or some such corny line. The new nietzchian saying something along the lines of Tyr was a fool, turning his back on serving with Hunt.....................yep, I know the quote's far from perfect, but in essence the characters just seemed there to stroke Hunts *ahem* ego. Then later in season 4 and throughout season 5, we find out that Hunt is some kind of almost Jedi.Andromeda could have been a great Sci-Fi show had it stayed focused on the story it was telling. When it became an exercise in Hunt worshipping, it sadly became something far less.It only gets a 5 from me, because only half the run is worth watching. If you're someone watching for the first time (maybe on Netflix), then enjoy the first 3 seasons - and only watch the final 2 if you want to see a good show turn bad.

I found the whole story line good, there was a theme running through the whole story, with side stories going on around the main thought. Watching this series back to back with no interruptions or ad's it was easy to follow the story through out.I found the end a bit disappointing, just walking/running off the bridge and the lights turning off was a bit anti climatic. I personally would like to see Dylan fulfill his role more as a Paradime, and see the Commonwealth being established, and struggles related to this, bringing the Netchizans together, maybe even a struggle between this empire with Commonwealth.I found the CGI great for its time, especially after watching other series that came out around this time as well for the TV, the costumes I loved, great look.I loved Kevin in his role as Dylan, he seemed to fit into this role well, had a good sense of humour but strong, after researching Kevin as a person I can see some of his character coming out into the character of Dylan, I find these actors good because they make the role their own, example Richard Dean Anderson and his character Jack O'Neil, the humour and love for the Simpsons.Kevin pulled his character off well, and having strong backing characters on his crew and the actors pulling this off pulled many of the stories together.I would have loved to be on set for the filming of this, I can see there would have been many laughs. I would love to get hold of a model of the actual Andromeda ship, finding anything from this show is proving to be hard.I hope that one day a movie is made to just finish up the season and develop the main characters and have a better ending.

Let me be brief - - - I am just going through the series ( I am at work, as the rest of the people are at home now through the holidays, and somebody has to watch the skies ) - - - So I got the time to watch Andromeda - - - - After a great concept, the makers of the series completely lost the silver lining by season 3, some parts have absolutely no logic, story-lines are full of holes - - - Captain Hunt became enormously boring, Harper annoying as hell with his yapping, Beca Valentine stays average - - - and the Nitchien characters are unexploited, Trance as interesting as she was, pales completely, it has no logic, characters are not "woven" well together - - - The only one that actually stands out, was Rommy / Andromeda ( Lexa Doing, has talent, I hope her career will flourish ).The potential for adventure in rebuilding a Commonwealth was great - - - The main threat was - - - - Strange, and boring, and the hidden element of the Commonwealth, well it also had potential, but they simply didn't use it - - - - Sometimes in watching some of the series, or movies with potential, in execution they fail completely. I wonder who approves crap they make, as if people that should be professionals in their work, and have lots of imagination, come out completely talentless ( Speaking of writers, and directors ) - - - - Good script, can work wonders - - - Actors often simply have to work with what they get, so I don't blame the actors for the crap that Andromeda became - - - I am now on the season 5 - - - It feels like pulling teeth with out any pain killers - - - total utter CRAP
