** THIS REVIEW COULD CONTAIN SPOILERS. I RECOMMEND THAT IF THE VIEWER DOESN'T WANT TO HAVE THE MOVIE SPOILED FOR THEM, I RECOMMEND VIEWING THE FILM BEFORE READING THIS REVIEW. THANK YOU. **I think this cartoon just wouldn't be the same without Roger. I thought it was really original to have a story where an actual C.I.A agent (Stan) rescues an alien (Roger) from dissection from Area 51, and gets his life saved by the alien in the process (First Episode). Then, the C.I.A agent Stan stores the "pan-sexual" alien in his attic. That's just too funny. The cartoon is also unique, because Stan's family Steve (son), Haley (daughter), and Francine (wife) tend to live normal lives, besides the alien in the attic and the quirky things that happen. Without understanding of what actually happens in the cartoon, an average viewer would be like "this is unrealistic and dumb." So how is this possible? Well whenever Roger appears in a scene with other people he has a costume on. Again, they look cheesy and it's obviously an alien. What the viewer may not know is that the only ones that see him as an alien in cheesy clothes are Stan, his family, and the viewers. The rest of the people in the show, view him as an actually human. So he's a shape-shift er to people who don't know. Roger refers to his disguises as his personas. This makes it possible for the alien to live among them in their attic. I thought this was very clever, not to mention original. The alien is also extremely "funny"-opinion. All the episodes are funny and have a family life sense to them all, which is what I think Seth was shooting for. All-in-all, this cartoon has a good story-line, well structured characters, good dialog, U.S. Government spoofs, and humor. I really like this cartoon. I would recommend this cartoon to those that are into television animation.

People joke about how similar this is to Seth MacFarlane's other show in terms of characters, but it really is quite different. The biggest difference is that there are no cutaway gags. I mean, just watching this I really get a sense of much more of a story and an effort to make jokes relevant to a story. I think it's great how Seth Macfarlane has managed to make something unique, but still loyal to his own style. I also love how this show has a ton more ongoing story lines, especially with Jeff being stuck in space. I can only say that Sinbad has never been funnier. I feel more for these characters because it's a show that knows it should take itself more seriously. It's another animated sitcom from Seth MacFarlane about a dysfunctional family, only with a talking goldfish and alien. The character Steve especially comes off as fairly realistic as he's more intelligent and has interesting friends. Yeah, half of them are mostly the same joke over, but it's still nice. Hayley is a pretty smart and free spirited girl who has nice arcs devoted to her. Roger (the alien) is one of the most insane characters I've come across and is mostly entertaining in his insanity even though it does make you wonder why the Smith family never punishes him. The show actually goes through changes as Hayley gains a husband. The jokes just seem better timed and the best part is how these characters really don't exist as mouthpieces for Seth Macfarlane's political views. It's weird, because I think that was the whole intention of this show's creation. It actually ended up becoming distinctive in its own right. I really do praise the show for that. The laughs are more subtle and Francine is pretty hot, lol. Whatever your political allegiance, I recommend this. ***1/2

First off, this show isn't even funny - unless you like black humour. The jokes in this show are horrible! If you think South Park has offensive jokes, well this has way more offensive jokes! Also, calling your own wife a $lut??? How is that funny??? Well,I guess people just like horrible jokes! Either that,or you probably aren't listening to any of the jokes definitions and just laughing at the funny jokes. Ah, yes, the funny jokes...there is lots of hilarious jokes in this show,I will admit it. Once I even got a slight laugh out of one of them. But these funny jokes are very rare and not even that funny, they're just a little bit funny. However, the rest of the show is just about making fun of people, r@pe jokes, r@cism (even more than Family Guy) and $exism. If you want a decent show, go watch The Simpsons, Family Guy, Robot Chicken, maybe even Bob's Burgers if you're bored...but not this! This show is complete $hit, however, some jokes are relatively funny so 4/10!

At first glance this show may look like a dodgy Family Guy copy but with different characters but it is far from that. American Dad focuses more on political humor and jokes that never fall flat. In a way it is Seth McFarlanes' Futurama. By this I mean its a show made by him that looks like his other show but has a completely different vibe. Fans of Family Guy constantly hate on this show because it has a different style of humour and tone. It still has curses, crude humor, violence and sexual references like Family Guy but focuses on making fun of political situations and current events. I say definitely check out American Dad if you want a nice satisfying half an hour of comedy. It is well worth watching.
