I've been watching American Crime ever since the first season. Now I just finished season 3. For me, as a European, this is one of the best American series I've seen in a very long time. The series portrays the average American citizen struggling to get through life. Jobs, relationships, friendships, they are all far from perfect. What strikes me the most is that the people disappoint each other deeply. Men belittle women, the rich exploit the poor, family is betrayal and the youth is forlorn and empty. But then comes the point of somebody seeking justice. Some get it, but many don't and have bite the dust. Next to the story, the acting and directing is of the highest level. Felicity Huffmann, Timothy Hutton and Lili Taylor are fantastic in their drama and lunacy.

I know this is a section for the entire series but I'm only writing for the latest season right now (may update this post in the future to reflect opinions of the previous 2 seasons.) The 3rd season is by far the best out of the 3! It was so well done. I loved it because each of the characters really had to turn around in their perspective of things. All of them. They each had their own story and it made me really get how peoples perspective on things can change without you expecting or knowing it. And that it all only matters when you move toward justice.Shooting off what I said about the characters turning around, they were all pretty forced to make the other decision. The circumstances called for them to change their mind about things and they did it. Each character did it and took responsibility. It wasn't like most movies or series where they twist the ending at the very end and then twist it 2 or three more times AT THE END. These changes that the characters made happened on a course throughout the series of episodes. Their backgrounds were unveiled at a good pace and tied to each other character little by little. Each character went full circle on their story lines and it was just so well put together. It was a short 8 episodes and the least number of episodes compared to the previous 2 seasons. But I the rewatch value is high for me. It really creates an exhibition of the current American government system and its continued evolvution.

i still don't get the rating, it is one of the best series running. no cheap tricks, no "unexpected but seen a million times" turns and twists. each episode is just another brick in the wall for all the characters. and they are not black or white, they are grey. like everyone in real life. when they move to a darker or lighter shade of grey it is just life as it is. highly recommendable!!!

How ironic that this season's topic is regarding one of the most controversial issues of the day: immigration. The show plans to approach it from several different angles, especially immigrants who come to the U.S from Mexico to work on farms throughout the country. It will focus in-depth on the lives of those people, what their effect is on the economy, and how farms must use their cheap labor in order to keep prices competitive...or will fail. As well, it addresses another tragic issue of our day: human trafficking.Although it's an entirely new cast of characters this season, you'll recognize a few familiar faces playing them along with some talented new additions. "American Crime" might be the first prime-time drama to address life in a 'Trump America'. While most of the show was probably written and filmed before he became President, I think it's safe to assume it will address issues such as "the wall", both forced and self deportation, etc. This show was always great, but it will be even more interesting now to see how they will have 'art imitating life'.
