Michael Ledo Zombie movies follow a basic formula because they are metaphoric of life. A group of people with brains seek out a safe utopian world free from the unthinking zombies who blindly follow the crowd trying to kill the idealists. There are 2 types of zombies. There are the foot dragging raised from the dead zombies and the faster moving viral zombies. In this regard, the film has met the basic requirements for a decent zombie film.A group of survivors are headed toward the island of Catalina. Some die along the way. Some are added along the way as in any good zombie film. Why they choose to venture on foot rather than drive a heavily shielded vehicle, I don't know. The special effects were inexpensive CG critters, fires, and blood squirts. In these types of films it is the characters and dialouge that make the production stand out from other low budget movies. In that regard, this one failed to stand out. Ving Rhames needed a personality. Lesley-Ann Brandt had dead deliveries and wore jeans that never got dirty. Like John Wayne movies, multiple zombies die when one bullet is fired. The other film that goes by this name is far worse.Parental Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity
Marc Davis Why? Why why why do I waste my time on SyFy films? We are expected to believe in comical to horrible special effects. Acting? Horrible. Editing? Horrible. Storyline/Plot? Passable. I had trouble coming up with 10 lines for this review because there is absolutely nothing worth writing about.Ving Rhames is the headliner in this mess of a film. I guess times are hard.Don't waste your time. It's not worth the 1 star.
SanteeFats I don't usually like nor watch zombie movies. Where does the virus, serum, whatever that causes it come from? The only movies I have seen that addresses this is the Resident Evil ones where it is caused by a released virus. I have questions. Where do they get their food when humans are gone or scarce? Why do some move faster than others. If they eat brains only why are their faces covered with blood? Why can some be killed only with head hits and others drop from chest shots? Anyway I actually enjoyed this movie. I like Ving Rhames plus several of the females are nice to look at. They are all trying to get a port where they can catch a ferry to Catalina Island, a bastion of humanity. I didn't know animals could get the virus until the tiger showed up. What the? Now long time survivors are dying and Ving gets scratched and has to die. The ferry does show up and the remaining ones are saved.
edwjoolee This movie was pretty bad. One of my favorite movies of all time is the original Dawn of the Dead. And one of my favorite directors of all time happens to be George A. Romero.I have noticed a revival of sorts of zombie themed movies in the last decade or so. I guess the most recent wave started with 28 Days Later and the Dawn of the Dead remake. In their wake, I have noticed a lot of badly made zombie films trying to cash in on their popularity.Zombie Apocalypse is bad. It sort of reminds me of the badly made Italian zombie films from the 80's: rambling plot progression, poorly written script and characters, badly made up zombies and poor special effects. Only thing that differentiates this film from those Italian films is that the characters here speak English and are not dubbed. At least the Italian films' poorly dubbed dialogue provided amusement and unintentional humor to them, making them somewhat watchable at least. Unfortunately, Zombie Apocalypse has neither the camp factor nor the unintentional humor to make it watchable in any way.But the true sad part is this: What the heck is Ving Rhames doing in this movie? I am beginning to notice him more in a lot of badly made straight-to-video films in recent years. I understand that he has bills to pay and family to feed, but please don't completely throw away your artistic integrity for a quick buck. Come on.I am giving this film a 4 out of 10, because it is a zombie film.
