riisaparker I watched this film for the sole purpose of seeing the way Barun Sobti has acted before. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how refreshing the storyline was. There are many bollywood films nowadays who try really hard to be funny or action packed, or dramatic. However, this film had me hooked from the start; it made me laugh and I was totally engrossed. This is well worth a watch.
HarshVardhan Arya The story of this movie is based on the life of 5 men. Each of them during their weekdays are facing certain problems either in personal or work life. And the sunday that arrives as a end day of the week, but for them it arrives as an escape day from their everyday problem. As they get to play football on sunday. But one sunday they decide to play football in Goa as they were not able to find a decent place to play football in their city. That is where they discover the weakness of each other. That is where they realise that they are just evading the challenges of their lives just by hanging out with the excuse of playing football on Sundays. And that is where they decide to take charge of one's own effort to bring a change they want in their lives.I think you can connect yourself with either of the five characters of the film. It brings the fact to your notice that it is only the sunday when you can take aa break in your routine life and do whatever you want to do for yourself. You will value a Sunday much more once you watch this film. And if you feel like you are just living for the sunday, I really think you should watch this movie.
Tejas Nair Milind Dhaimade's debut directorial is like a breath of fresh, warm air in Bollywood. A poignant film that critiques a lack of open spaces in Mumbai. Talking about a bunch of five friends - some in their late 20s and others in early 30s, Tu Hai Mera Sunday, although obnoxiously titled, claims that this lack of open spaces where humans cannot unwind periodically is what is making them go mad. It says that it is one of the biggest issues that we do not fight against today, and instead compromise with our jobs that we don't like, relationships that are toxic, by holding grudges that are painful, and whatnot. While I can relate to this relevant theme, where Tu Hai Mera Sunday fails is in its climax. After promising a lot of things and even going hellbent emotional over it, it ends like a splash of effervescent water. I'm not talking about a solution, but a steady crescendo to whatever the writers had in their mind. There's a scene towards the end where a guy goes emotionally berserk about how his friends are just compromising with their lives - and that's where the theme ends. The remaining parts are fillers. However, what makes the film appealing is these fillers - these tasty sequences that director Dhaimade captures using his able actors to bring out the best about life in general. Whether it is Barun Sobti's innocence or Shahana Goswami's outwardly cool attitude or Avinash Tiwary's jokes, the film sustains because of these bulbs of moving drama that just makes you feel good. With an overall superior cast performance and a slightly off writing here and there, Tu Hai Mera Sunday is a feel-good film that must be watched but not loved. Don't get any ideas. TN.
tlrg-legend Some movie titles do no justice to the promise of the story at hand. Tu Hai Mera Sunday is the perfect example of an esoteric title spoiling the fun of a perfect feel-good film. This film is about urban people and their simple relationships. A film that's based on a bunch of young folks looking for a space to play football in every Sunday. The trials and travails around their simple leisure activity makes the base on which this film explores some genuinely fun and relevant Mumbai themes. With a better title and slightly more finesse in filmmaking this would've been a sure shot winner. The story deals with five Mumbai friends who want to play football over the weekend to get over the rigmarole of their hectic lives in maximum city. Society, peers and of course politicians foil their plans. The group isn't able to play football on their favourite Juhu beach and that's when they start looking for a new place and that raises all sorts of questions. Arjun (Barun Sobti) is the lead character. He's the face of the group and also the one with most sorted disposition. Others in the group form the perfect representation of Mumbai's communities. One is a Gujarati, other's a Christian, a muslim and a parsi too. Shahana Goswami plays the love interest who adds a dimension to the hero's tale. Character driven, Tu Hai Mera Sunday makes its big play on the thought that ordinary people can get a massive reprieve with just a few moments of leisure. That the entire Indian ecosystem was too obsessed with being a metropolis rather than a happy city. It has novel ideas, but Tu Hai Mera Sunday's intentions deserved a better execution. Director Milind Dhaimade isn't able to get the required finesse in telling this tale. Scenes on Juhu beach or in other places in Mumbai could've been shot a lot better. The movie's various conflicts for each character, the emotional black-mailing mother for example, don't always feel convincing. It all boils down to putting a little more effort in cinematography, background music and of course dialogue. The majority of the cast on the film are established TV faces. Barun, Vishal Malhotra, Avinash Tiwary and so many others are popular on the small screen. Naturally they're all fine actors and do a great job with their roles. Shahana Goswami is the biggest film star on the cast though and she does well to bring charm. The performances of Tu Hai Mera Sunday are solid. This film briefly makes you think about life in the big city. It has noble intentions and its character quirks are designed to both entertain and understand the story. But the good writing doesn't always translate into the screenplay. Tu Hai Mera Sunday is a decent watch. It's definitely a better story than its trite title. A feel-good film especially for younger citizens of India's big booming cities.
