Synopsis

The 1993 WWF Survivor Series took place on Thanksgiving Eve, November 24, 1993 at the Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The event featured four tag-team elimination matches and a bout for the Smoky Mountain Wrestling Tag Team Championship. The main event match saw the All-Americans, a team of face wrestlers from the United States, competing against the Foreign Fanatics, a team of heels that represented other countries. In an undercard match, four members of the Hart family competed against Shawn Michaels and a group of masked men. The original plan was for the Harts to face Jerry Lawler, with whom they were feuding, but Lawler was not able to appear at the event.

callanvass Live from Boston, MAAttendance, 15, 509Your hosts are Vince McMahon & Bobby HeenanI.R.S, Diesel, Adam Bomb, and Rick Martel Vs Razor Ramon, Randy Savage, The 123 Kid, and Marty JanettyHere are the eliminationsDiesel by Randy Savage (Flying elbow drop)Randy Savage by I.R.S (roll-up after a distraction by Crush)I.R.S by Razor Ramon (Razor's Edge)Razor Ramon by countout (I.R.S drilled him with his briefcase to knock him out of the ring)Rick Martel by The 123 Kid (victory roll)Adam Bomb by Marty Janetty (slingshot sunset flip)Sole Survivors: The 123 Kid & Marty JanettyMr. Perfect was originally supposed to be on Razor's team, but his back flared up and Savage became his replacement. This match was a really fun opener that was consistently exciting. I don't think anybody expected the big names like Razor and Savage to be eliminated. The big story here is The 123 Kid and Marty Janetty's upset. The 123 Kid and Janetty being the sole survivors told a nice underdog story.***1/2Shawn Michaels, The Black Knight, The Blue Knight, and The Red Knight Vs The Hart Family (Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Bruce Hart, and Keith Hart)The Black Knight by Owen Hart (Missile dropkick from the top)The Red Knight by Bret Hart (Sharpshooter)The Blue Knight by Owen Hart (Sharpshooter)Owen Hart by Shawn Michaels (roll-up)Shawn Michaels by countoutSole Survivors: Bret Hart, Keith Hart, and Bruce Hart.Jerry Lawler was originally supposed to be the captain of the Knights, but he was replaced by Shawn Michaels. Jeff Gaylord is the Black Knight, Greg Valentine is the Blue Knight, and Barry Horrowitz is the Red Knight. After the match, Owen is irate over his elimination and dissension commences between Owen and Bret. For some reason, Bruce and Keith Hart did a lot of the heavy lifting in the match. As a result, this was a tad boring at times. Bret and Owen's presence automatically mitigates things a bit, but they didn't wrestle enough. This match is memorable because it was the start of Owen's heel turn. **Gorilla Monsoon almost hits Bobby Heenan until Heenan starts cowering and pleading with Gorilla. Nothing really comes of it. Gorilla would eventually kick Heenan out of the WWE on an episode of Raw a few weeks later.Smoky Mountain Tag Team ChampionshipRock 'N' Roll Express (C) Vs The Heavenly Bodies (W/Jim Cornette)This is associated with Smoky Mountain Wrestling. The Heavenly Bodies win the titles after some cheating by using a tennis racket. This was thrown together without much fan fare, but it was still a a really good match! Both teams are pros, who know exactly what they are doing.***1/2Bam Bam Bigelow, Bastion Booger & The Headshrinkers Vs The Bushwhackers & Men on a Mission. Oh, god! The Bushwhackers and Men on a Mission are dressed up like Doink. The fans are into this, yet they are silent during a great tag match between The Heavenly Bodies and The Rock 'N' Roll Express? Okay then. This is one of the stupidest matches I've ever seen. It's nothing but an unfunny comedy match that made me roll my eyes. I checked my brain at the door and I still found it stupid. Poor, Bam Bam. Afterwards, Doink shows up on the titantron and makes fun of Bigelow. 1/2* Eliminations.Samu by a Bushwhacker (roll-up)Bastion Booger by Mabel (legdrop)Fatu by Butch (Fatu slips on a banana peel, then Butch rolls him up)Bam Bam Bigelow by Mabel (big splash)Sole Survivors: Men on a Mission & The Bushwhackers. The Foreign Fanatics (Yokozuna, Ludvig Borga, Crush, and Jacques) vs The All-Americans (Lex Luger, The Undertaker & The Steiner Brothers)*1/2Eliminations. Rick Steiner by Ludvig Borga (A botched powerslam in mid-air off the top. Borga tried to catch him and he couldn't hold on. Borga pins him anyway)Crush by countout (Randy Savage runs down and brawls with Crush)Jacques by Lex Luger (pointed elbow drop from the second turnbuckle)Scott Stiner by Yokozuna (legdrop)The Undertaker & Yokozuna (Both of them brawl on the floor to a double countout)Ludvig Borga by Lex Luger (running forearm)Sole Survivor: Lex LugerThis wasn't exactly terrible or anything, but it was a relatively mundane main event. The main problem with this match is the lack of talent. The Steiner's were eliminated early and The Undertaker was still in his zombie phase. I felt no-selling a Banzai drop from Yokozuna was a bit much. *1/2Final Thoughts: This is a pretty average event for the most part. It started the beginning of Owen Hart's heel turn, the opener was fun, and we got a really good tag team match from Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Aside from that, there is nothing special about this show at all. After Hogan left, Vince tried the Luger experiment. It failed miserably.
Playa9978 The Survivor Series exploded from the sold-out Boston Garden on the eve of Thanksgiving on November 24, 1993. I saw this event live, and thought it was decent at best. I will give you the recap in succession: Spoilers ahead, BEWARE!!! The first match pitted Razor Ramon's team vs. IRS's team. The Razor took out IRS in the medium, and then was later knocked off by IRS. That was rather strange, and even lame to an extent. At the end, the 123-Kid and Marty Jannetty pull roll-up pins on Rick Martel and Adam Bomb in a matter of seconds. That Stinks! It could've gone longer and should've been better edited at this point. Most of the action is at the early stages, and they're not very interesting. Rating CThe Second match features "The Hart Family vs. "Shawn Michaels and 3 Knights". This match was okay, but rather dull in the beginning moments of the bout. No one cares for these three men with masks, and nobody gives a damn about loser brothers helping Bret and Owen (the only stars on the good side, with Shawn Michaels on the heels). However, after the knights are gone, Shawn Michaels is left all by himself, until things go amiss, and Owen is rolled up into a pin, wounding up as the only Hart brother eliminated from the encounter. Later, Bret and the crew pound Michaels into oblivion and the Heartbreak Kid finally bails, and runs from the ring, ending up a count-out as the end result. The crowd boos, but hey, Shawn Michaels wasn't about to let the Hart brothers destroy his pretty face. He took a good enough beating anyway, and besides, it leaves more to be desired knowing that Michaels got off the hook. Now, back to the match, Bret and two brothers survive, but Owen is p**sed for being the only brother taken out and makes it known. Rating C+The Smokey Mountain tag-team title match stunk, and it was boring. I'm not gonna even bother covering the details of this match. It bores me to even think about it. Rating D-The four Doinks in the form of the Bushwhackers and M.O.M against the team of Bam Bam Bigelow, Bastion Boogar and the Headshrinkers also was poorly scripted. None of the so-called Doinks were eliminated! What kind of crap is that! They weren't that good a team, and where was the real Doink at anyway! This was awful. Rating FThe All-Americans vs. The Foreign Fanatics makes for a better climax sorely needed to salvage a lackluster event. The Steiners are knocked off by the bad guys, and the Undertaker and Yokozuna battle it out to the delight of the crowd. This set up the much anticipated Royal Rumble between the Undertaker and Yokozuna for the world title in the months to come. Back to the action, Ludvig Borga and Lex Luger get it on at the end, and though Luger suffers greatly, he manages to regain his composure and defeat Borga to close out the match as the sole survivor. Suddenly, Santa Claus runs out with a present to give the winner. Don't know what that was about. Rating B
Big Movie Fan In my opinion the last truly great Survivor Series was the 1991 event. The Survivor Series events from 1987-1991 were brilliant events with really great matches and phenomenal crowds. Survivor Series events from 1992 onwards have been quite average. This was a pretty decent card. The 4 Doinks VS Bam Bam Bigelow's Team was quite an entertaining match if you like comedy and wrestling together. And the opening match pitting Razor Ramon's Team VS The Model's Team was a reasonable match.Bret Hart and his brothers VS Shawn Michaels and the 3 Knights was an okay match. Jerry Lawler should have captained the 3 Knights but for complicated reasons he didn't wrestle that night and Shawn Michaels took his place. This match was remarkable in parts. The main event was The All-Americans VS The Foreign Fanatics. It was as good as one would expect.I'd say Survivor Series '93 was worth at least one look.
NukeIt2 First off, the main event was supposed to be Lex Luger, the Steiners and TATANKA vs. Yokozuna, Ludvig Borga, Jacques and PIERRE. For reasons that I don't know, Tataka was "injured" and replaced by the Undertaker, and Pierre was taken out to make room for Crush. I am guessing that the reason is that the Undertaker was one of the biggest superstars in the WWF and they needed to put him somewhere (sort of a setup for the 1994 Royal Rumble match: Undertaker vs. Yokozuna), while they possibly put Crush in to try to get him to become more of a "bad guy" (he had just turned heel after being a face). The first match was supposed to be Razor Ramon, Mr Perfect, Marty Jannetty, and the 123 Kid vs. IRS, Diesel, Adam Bomb and Rick Martel, but due to injuries, Mr. Perfect was replaced by Macho Man Randy Savage. The WWF did not make this clear until just before the match began. The whole family feud began when Jerry the King Lawler insulted the Harts and this set the match between Lawler and his Knights vs. 4 Hart brothers, but weeks before the Survivor Series Lawler took some time away from the WWF and they used Shawn Michaels in his place, and acted as if Lawler never existed!Another funny thing about this match is that only 3 of the 8 participents were WWF superstars at the time! Keith and Bruce Hart had a 1 time deal, and the 3 Knights (Greg Valentine, Barry Horowitz and Jeff Gaylord) only did this one time with the gimmicks to my knowledge.Funny thing about the match advertised as 4 Doinks vs. Bam Bam Bigelow, Bastian Booger and Headshrinkers is the fact that no Doink was involved. The Bushwackers and Men on a Mission fought this match wearing Doink masks and make up!I'm not going to spoil the results for you, but I will say that I don't think that this was the greatest Survivor Series. But, hell, this IS a WWF Survivor Series, and i give it a 9 out of 10!
