Synopsis

SummerSlam (2007) was the twentieth annual SummerSlam PPV. It was presented by THQ's Stuntman Ignition. It took place on August 26, 2007 at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey and featured talent from each of WWE's three brands: Raw, SmackDown, and ECW. The main feud, heading into the event from the Raw brand was between John Cena and Randy Orton. From SmackDown, the predominant feud was between The Great Khali and Batista. After Khali defeated Batista and Kane in a Triple Threat match, a match between three wrestlers contested under standard rules, Theodore Long booked Khali to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Batista at SummerSlam. The primary feud from ECW was between John Morrison and CM Punk. By defeating Morrison in a 15 Minutes of Fame match, Punk became the number one contender to the ECW Championship at SummerSlam.

Reviews

gridoon2018 It's supposed to be "the biggest party of the summer", but most of the matches simply lack that big "event" feel. The outcomes are predictable, the comedy sketches are unfunny, and the Diva Battle Royal is a royal mess. The exception is the main event, where John Cena faces Randy Orton in a WWE championship match. This was the period when WWE fans had just about enough of Cena (as Jim Ross helpfully notes, he was champion for 24 out of the last 27 months!); every time Orton (the supposed heel of the match) got on the offensive the crowd cheered, and every time Cena got the upper hand he was booed out of the building! This audience participation gives this match a charge that the others don't have.
jts0405 Match 1: Finlay vs Kane - These two had a small feud going on the SmackDown brand, which led to this match at SummerSlam. Total domination from Kane the entire time. In the end Finlay tries to hit Kane with his weapon (don't know how to spell it), but Kane instead reverses into a chokeslam for the win. Decent opening match.Match 2: Umaga (c) vs Mr. Kennedy vs Carlito in a Triple Threat for the Intercontinental Championship - All heels in one match for a title, surprising scenario. Carlito and Kennedy mostly double team Umaga and battle with each other most of the time. Umaga takes control towards the close and lands a Samoan Spike on Kennedy to retain. Not bad, but could have been better.Match 3: Rey Mysterio vs Chavo Guerrero - Chavo is a very underrated superstar. He deserves to be shown at pay per views more, because he actually can wrestle really well. Mysterio comes out painted in all silver, like the silver surfer from Fantastic Four. The match was very high paced and interesting. A rematch from last year's Summerslam when Chavo defeated Rey. In the end Mysterio scores the win much to the delight of the fans. Another good match.Match 4: Divas Battle Royal - Nothing special to say the least. Beth Phoenix does some good dominating the entire time. In the end she grasps the win for a future title shot at Candice.Match 5: John Morrison (c) vs CM Punk for the ECW Championship - These two were potential show stealers at both Vengeance: Night of Champions and The Great American Bash, but something was off here. This was a very short match with almost nothing clicking between the two combatants. Normally they deliver a strong match against each other, but this was a waste for a pay per view. Morrison retains for the second time against Punk. A major let down for a title match.Match 6: King Booker (with Sharmell) vs Triple H - Good match. Probably better than expected. Booker comes out with his pompous attitude like normal and claims that he is the only king in the WWE. The Game's music hits and all the people jump to their feet. The second return of the night, right behind Mysterio's comeback earlier. Solid match with Triple H landing a pedigree in the end for the win.Match 7: The Great Khali (c) (with Ranjin Singh) vs Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship - Horrible main event for SmackDown. Khali is probably the least interesting World Champion since the title's rebirth. Batista gets a good reception, but his talent was wasted in this particular match. Very short, as Khali grabs a chair and gets himself disqualified. The crowd was dead.Match 8: John Cena (c) vs Randy Orton for the WWE Championship - The best of the three titles matches that night. Cena normally gets on your nerves with his poor wrestling skills, but this proved that the guy still can deliver a good enough title match. Orton looks pretty good as well with his usual moves. They go for over twenty minutes with a very solid match. In the end Cena lands an FU to retain the title. I personally liked it.Best Matches: WWE Title Match/Rey Mysterio vs Chavo Guerrero Worst Matches: World Title Match/ECW Title Match
kliko400 My goodness, when they are saying biggest part of the summer, they sure are not kidding, this was a roller-coaster ride of an event. This is the best Summerslam so far, even after Summerslam 2004.FIRST MATCH- KANE VS. FINLAY With this match having enough time, this was a damn good way to start the show, both men were in a good match, & despite it's duration, this was a really good match. Kane wins after a massive Chokeslam on Finlay. 6/10SECOND MATCH- UMAGA {CHAMPION] VS. MR. KENNEDY VS. CARLITO IN A TRIPLE-THREAT MATCH FOR THE WWE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP It's pretty hard to rate this match, as it was really good, but I felt as though something was missing, anyway still an exciting bout to watch, although I really wish Mr. Kennedy won. Umaga nails the Samoan Spike on Mr. Kennedy for the win & to retain his WWE Intercontinental Championship. 6/10THIRD MATCH- REY MYSTERIO VS. CHAVO GUERRERO The fans went absolutely wild & crazy when Mysterio made his return, but what the heck, it is really great to see him come back after a long & severe knee injury. Mysterio makes his long awaited comeback by defeating Chavo with a 619. Welcome back Rey. 5/10FOURTH MATCH- RAW VS. SMACKDOWN VS. ECW DIVA BATTLE ROYAL WHICHEVER DIVA WINS BECOMES NO.1 CONTENDER FOR THE WWE WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP It was pretty hard to watch this match, as too many Divas in the ring & they were all screaming, anyway Diva matches hardly impress me. Beth Phoenix eliminates Michelle McCool last, but I don't think anyone cared. 4/10FIFTH MATCH- JOHN MORRISON {CHAMPION} VS. CM PUNK FOR THE ECW CHAMPIONSHIP These two just get better & also have more chemistry every time they step in the ring together. But it wouldn't hurt if CM Punk could get the title some time. Sadly no, as John Morrison puts his feet on the ropes & pins CM Punk for the win & to retain his ECW Championship. 5/10SIXTH MATCH- TRIPLE H VS. KING BOOKER W/ QUEEN SHARMELL The crowd goes twice as crazy when HHH the King Of Kings returns, it sure as hell is great to see him come back. What a comeback it was, as he carried King Booker to a good match {King Booker himself & his gimmick is just really bad}. HHH nails the Pedigree on King Booker for the comeback win. I think it's time HHH becomes Champion again. 5/10SEVENTH MATCH- GREAT KHALI {CHAMPION} VS. BATISTA FOR THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP My goodness this match was just horrible, for the first time ever, I actually wish that Great Khali remains champion, then that useless wrestler Batista. Thank God that this match finished pretty quickly. Great Khali nails Batista with a steel chair to disqualify himself, but remains champion. After the match, Batista nails a spine buster on the giant Khali, I'll be surprised if anyone cared. 3/10EIGHT MATCH- JOHN CENA {CHAMPION} VS. RANDY ORTON FOR THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP The match that most fans would love to see is finally here. The match started off slow & a bit slow paced as well, but later throughout the match, the pace quickened very fast, & turned out to be the Match Of The Night. John Cena nails the FU out of nowhere for the hard fought victory. John Cena has won 10 PPV 's so far this year, what an awesome fighting champion. 6/10This year's edition of Summerslam definitely delivered, awesome matches, great comebacks by Mysterio & HHH, this was a great Summerslam, definitely categorized as the 'Biggest Party Of The Summer'.Overall I'll give it 9/10 & a A
chito-1012 The 20th annual WWE SummerSlam event came live from East Rutherford, NJ where over 17,000 attended the Continental Airlines Arena to witness the biggest party of the summer. Although The card looked strong, the event didn't have that "Big 4" feeling with only the main event living up to that caliber. However, The Return of HHH and Rey Mysterio were welcomed and most of the matches were enjoyable and delivered with only a few letdowns. 1) Kane vs Finlay.... A decent opening & effort by both vets with both giving hard hits and slams to each other. Despite the slow pace, the match had highlights as such when Kane knocked Finlay off the top turnbuckle to the concrete floor and when Hornswoggle interfered to hand Finlay a second shillelagh but almost got a choke slam for his troubles. The end finally came when Kane delivered a massive choke slam to Finlay for the 3 count. Rating: 6/10 2) Umaga vs Mr. Kennedy vs Carlito in a triple threat match for the IC Championship.... A great, fast paced match with all 3 participants giving it their all. Highlights include when Umaga was thrown out of the ring onto the steps, and when Mr. Kennedy delivered the Green Bay Plunge to Carlito. Although the crowd was really in favor of Mr. Kennedy, it would not be his night as Umaga nailed him with the Samoan Spike for the Win and to retain. Rating: 7/10 3) Rey Mysterio vs Chavo....The match started off very good with an interesting show of reversals between the two but then it went downhill from there. The match drastically slowed down as the result of Chavo working on Reys knee way to much. Rey tried to fight back, but as soon as he gained momentum, Chavo went right back to work on his knee. The match slowed down so bad that the fans were booing every time Chavo applied a hold, but before the dreaded boring chants could start, Rey broke free and finally delivered the 619 and splash to pick up the win. Rating: 5/104) Divas Battle Royal.... This was a chaotic and very humorous fight between all the divas. Besides women flying all over the place, there were sucker punches, slaps, kicking, and lots of screaming and moaning. Notable eliminations were Victoria, Mickie Jaymes, and Melina has they took nasty spills over the rope. In the end though, Beth Phoenix threw Michelle McCool over the top rope to win the Battle Royal. Rating: 4/10 6) John Morrison vs CM Punk for the ECW Championship.... Despite the crowds lack of interest, this was one of the best matches of the night. These two have great in-ring chemistry and both delivered an excellent match with lots of athleticism and great wrestling moves. Highlights included CM Punks Moonsault and Hurricarana. The end resulted when Morrison rolled up CM Punk for the pin and used the ropes to his advantage to retain. Why this match wasn't contested under extreme rules or even a ladder match was a bit disappointing as the rivalry between these two is at its peak. Rating: 8/10 7) HHH vs King Booker.... The return of The Game was definitely a highlight of the whole show as the crowd erupted with a large ovation. Though it was great to see HHH back in the ring, the match was an average bout between these two with highlights that include King Bookers "BookEnd" move and his flipping leg drop off the top rope and HHH performing all his vintage moves. HHH snatched Booker up for his first Pedigree in 8 months to pick up the win. Ratin: 6/10 8)The Great Khali vs Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship....Perhaps the worst WHC match of all time as this was a sloppy and slow paced match. Through out the whole match, the Great Khali applied too many holds which made the crowd grow restless and boring chants filled the arena. What made things worse were that Batista did almost absolutely nothing, only landing very punches. It wasn't their fault though as WWE put them both in this awful situation. And to make things even more worse was the horrible ending in which Khali grabbed a chair and nailed Batista on the back with it resulting in a DQ. Khali would retain, but an aftermath resulted when Batista grabbed the chair and started attacking him with it, but because of the disdain the crowd had from watching such a crap fest, nobody cared and another Batista match was made forgettable. Rating:4/10 Main Event) John Cena vs Randy Orton for the WWE Championship....This was a red hot main event as from the day it was announced, fans new they would witness a Summerslam classic. The crowd played a huge part in this match as there was a wild mixed crowd reaction. Either way though, the match was Awesome with Orton dominating most of the match applying holds and hard hits directly to Cena's head. John Cena of course used the only 3 moves he knows in which he applied the STFU, Flying Leg Drop and the pitiful FU. Orton landed the RKO and almost connected with the punt to Cenas head but in the end Cena rolled up Randy for the FU and won via 3 count (Disgusting Outcome!!). Like me, most insider fans who read all over the internet for the past month about how Orton was most likely going to win, were absolutely shocked at the result of this match, but either way, Cena will eventually lose and hopefully never get the title back. Rating:8/10
