SlyGuy21 1st Match: Eddie Guerrero vs Chris Jericho, WCW Cruiserweight Championship. This is an awesome match to start the show, two of the best performers this brand had goin' at it for almost 20 minutes. Both guys do great work here, and it's a very physical match. The only flaw the match has is the ending. There's no interference or anything garbage like that. But it looks like Jericho botches a superplex, Eddie lands on his head, and then hits a frog splash for the win. The rest of the match is so well paced, but the ending looks like it's on fast forward. Aside from that minor gripe though, this is one of the better WCW for this year. Rating: 4.5/52nd Match: Harlem Heat vs The Steiners. Good heat/face work here, WCW is finally starting to have heels that aren't just nWo guys. The match isn't anything special, just a lot of suplexes and power moves, but the tactics and crowd help the match along. Rating: 3.5/53rd Match: Ultimo Dragon vs Alex Wright, WCW World TV Championship. I can normally count on Dragon for a good match, but Wright does good work here too. He plays up the flamboyant attitude, which this 90s Southern crowd hates. It's simple, but it works. Kind of a shame that Wright never moved up from this match though, because he had a lot of potential at a young age. Rating: 3.5/54th Match:Dean Malenko vs Jeff Jarrett. As someone who hates Jarrett's guts, I'll give him credit this one time. Malenko is as cold as always, which is fun to watch, and he works well with Jarrett's heel work. I also liked how Jarrett won clean, instead of the Briefcase of Death. I biggest problem is that Jarrett wins by submission. Malenko taps out to Jeff Jarrett, that hurt his persona a lot for me. Rating: 3.5/55th Match: The Faces of Fear vs Wrath and Mortis. A decent brawl, nothing super, but at least Wrath and Mortis have different opponents. There are some cool moments, but this is the weakest match of the night. Rating: 3/56th Match: Scott Norton vs The Big Show. Looks like a pretty basic squash, but Norton gets some good offense for awhile. The crowd likes it, and it's short, so there's not much to complain about. Rating: 3/57th Match: Lex Luger and DDP vs Randy Savage and Scott Hall. This is just a beatdown with multiple refs KOd, Larry Zbyszko gets off commentary and helps DDP and Luger win. Kind of a cheap ending, but it helped further storylines, and didn't feel like a total cop-out. Rating: 3/58th Match: The Four Horsemen vs The nWo, WarGames. Not as good as the WarGames from last year, mostly because you can see the ending from a galaxy away. Hennig got beatdown before the match, so Flair, Mongo, and Benoit are one man down. He then comes out later and joins the nWo, handcuffing Mongo and Benoit to the cage while Flair gets destroyed. Despite the obvious ending, the match is solid up to that point. It's stiff, there's good tactics from both teams, the ending just takes a lot out of it. It doesn't kill the match though, and does a good job of furthering the nWo as heels. Rating: 3.5/5Final Rating: 7 out of 10. Despite the obvious double cross ending of the show, the card and matches are pretty solid.R.I.P Eddie Guerrero&R.I.P Chris Benoit
callanvass Live from Winston-Salem, NCAttendance 11,939Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbyszko & Mike TenayCruiserweight TitleChris Jericho (C) Vs Eddie GuerreroEddie wins the title after a Frogsplash. What a match! This is one of the most underrated openers in my opinion. They did some stuff that I haven't seen in years, like The Gory Special. It had great mat work, fantastic high-flying manuevers, and non-stop excitement. I was sad to see this one end. I could have easily watched 10 or so minutes more.**** out of 5Harlem Heat Vs The Steiner BrothersThe Steiner Brothers win. This was actually a fairly solid match! Both Harlem Heat and The Steiner's did some really innovative stuff in this match. It started off slowly, but really picked up after a while. **3/4 out of 5Television TitleAlex Wright (C) Vs The Ultimo DragonSadly, Wright retains with a German suplex. I'm gonna be a biased son of a you know what here. They both worked hard, but I can't stand Alex Wright. He's so inept that I had trouble enjoying this match. Technically, it was a decent match, but I just couldn't enjoy it.**1/2 out of 5Curt Hennig is attacked by the nWo in the locker room.#1 Contender's Match (For the United States title)Jeff Jarrett Vs Dean MalenkoJarrett wins by submission with the Figure Four. Even though I don't like Jeff Jarrett, this was a great match between these two. It was just pure wrestling from the outset. It featured good psychology and a lot of excitement. Well done, boys!***1/2 out of 5Faces of Fear (Meng & The Barbarian) Vs Wrath & MortisWrath and Mortis win. This was an average match that went on far too long. I didn't understand the need for Mortis and Wrath to win here. Their gimmicks were really stupid and didn't have much longevity.** out of 5The Giant Vs Scott NortonThe Giant wins with a chokeslam. This actually wasn't a squash match. Norton got in quite a bit of offence. Most of it was really boring. Aside from The Giant throwing dropkicks, this match sucked.* out of 5DDP & Lex Luger Vs Scott Hall & Randy SavageDDP and Luger win after Larry Zbyszko takes over referring duties and counts the three. It wasn't really much of a match, but it did advance some story lines. It furthered the feud between Zbyszko and Hall. I actually enjoyed the ending. The announcers said it best. WCW is starting to make their own rules, just like the nWo is doing.*3/4 out of 5War Games Ric Flair, Chris Beniot, Steve McMichael & Curt Hennig Vs Kevin Nash, Konnan, Syxx & Buff BagwellThe nWo wins after Curt Hennig turns on the Four Horsemen and reveals he's with the nWo. They injure Ric Flair badly by slamming him in the head with the cage door. This had the right intensity and it was pretty entertaining to watch. Unfortunately, Hennig's heel turn was very predictable. You could see it coming a mile away. It kind of ruined the impact a little bit.**3/4 out of 5Overall, I enjoyed this PPV. You can't go wrong with two matches that are well over *** stars. The nWo dominating is starting to get a little old, though.7/10
amanwhorocks 1. WCW Cruiserweight Title Match: Eddy Guerrero Vs. Champ-Chris Jericho - Nice worked match, With clean victory by heel - new champ. 9/10 2. Harlem Heat Vs. The Steiner Brothers - Pretty exciting tag team action. Scotty nice sell every move and nice perform. 8.5/10 3. WCW World TV Title Match: Ultimo Dragon Vs.
