you must see this movie - especially if you want to understand tragedy that polish nation went through during second world war... warning: movie is drastic - but it is consistent with the historical truth... it is story about hope, uneven fight and unbelievable tragedy... it is a story mostly about young people so no surprise that there is a love-story in background... I think this movie is something that every European should see... It is a great lesson of history - it educates not only about the past but it also shows how inhuman humans can be... I think that sufferings of Jews during the war are well known - but not only Jews where suffering - btw. there is another great movie about story of Warsaw ghetto named 'The Pianist'- you have to see it if you liked this movie and vice versa...

For emotion I give it 10/10.Plot was reasonably interesting, there was some character development, however the main character's actions during the film were often questionable.I felt that they basically threw together random facts and then hammered it together into a story and threw a love triangle in just to make it interesting. Some historical facts were covered hurriedly and not explained or emphasized clearly. The fact that all buildings were to be destroyed unless Poland surrendered was very hurriedly mentioned.Furthermore the combat did not seem representative of the statistical kill ratios as recorded. Statistically the number of Polish resistance casualties was similar to the number of Nazi troop casualties. In the film the Polish troops seem to drop like flies and you almost never see any Nazis being killed, except for in room to room engagements.I also believe that some of the scenes were unnecessary, the unrealistic kissing scene.Overall I enjoyed the film until I thought about the plot after finishing the film. To me the plot felt unsatisfying, but this is my subjective opinion.I must however praise the film for trying to include as many historical events as possible. However I am irritated at the lack of any mention about the weapons manufactured by the resistance. During the Polish uprising, the Polish underground manufactured nearly 1000 Błyskawica submachine guns. I saw none of these during the film. I know it's costly to make a functioning replica of this, but they didn't have to, they could have made a non-functioning replica and had some of the men carrying them. They didn't even mention that they were manufacturing this or that they were manufacturing VIS pistols. You do at least see 1 VIS pistol during the film.

This is a VERY well made film, and refreshingly so from a production that is not American. The visual effects are amazing and in my opinion do NOT take away from the emotions of the actual story.I doubt the tragic history of Warsaw has ever been this brutally and realistically portrayed. One of the best WWII movies out there. It has found the balance between using cool and bloody visuals and slow-mo effects without making it so over the top that it becomes a pure action movie. What makes me give 9 instead of 10 stars is the storyline, which even though great and not too cliché does lack something. I can't really pinpoint what it is.But overall, this is a brilliant historical drama!

My both parents took an active part in Warsaw Uprising, and growing up in Warsaw I absorbed a whole lot of facts and points of view from the rest of my family, neighbors, books, newspapers, TV, and other movies about the Uprising. For the obvious reason this movie is very personal to me, and for the most part took me really close to the image of the events I've had since my childhood. The love triangle is not too important to me, as it could be replaced with another situation, typical for young people of this age. The battle scenes are extremely gruesome, but seem to be closer to reality than many war movies will show you. My uncle was cut in half by the bomb blast and the family could only bury the body from the waist down. My father was moving through the sewage system, full of stench from dead bodies and rats feasting on the corpses. Once he emerged he was not able to talk at all for several months. My parents were as young and full of life as the characters in the movie, and although love was definitely not a priority back then, the youth and all the things associated was a dominant factor. So this is how this movie talks to me - the youth is such an incredible force, it allows a man to go through Dante's hell.
