ThatMonkey I actually, thoroughly enjoyed this film. That was until I saw the original and found out what a pathetic retelling this was on a certified classic. In some ways, it's hard to remake 70's films. The racial language alone would make the film an R, thrown in the suggestive sex and nudity and the PG-13 rating added to this title are now blown. The Villain in the remake is much more convincing and menacing, but the rock is less than believable playing the punk version of Joe Don Baker. For the sake of this movies and many others that Hollywood is attempting to retackle, son't be afraid to go all the way. Adults need strong film and there is no shame with an R rating.
mistoppi I just chose a random movie from Netflix. Well, not that random, I just wanted something with The Rock. ' When you haven't read a summary, it's hard to follow a movie. Like I still don't know what part of this movie was the main point in the plot. When Chris Vaughn went against the people in the casino? When he became sheriff? The story is pretty typical, not good but not bad either. You watch the movie, hoping Chris Vaughn will get the bad guys, but otherwise are you invested in him? Or in anyone? Like most characters bring something to the story, but no one is really that interesting. Well, there was a moment when I started thinking about the main character's past, because it was never really revealed to us, but his actions seemed to reveal a little something. Yet nothing was truly said out loud, so that was only a little moment. When watching Walking Tall I kept thinking that the movie is basically bad decisions after another. Sure, Chris Vaughn has his heart in the right place and all that, but mostly I had to shake my head. Why, Chris? Why the hell would you do that? Also how he became sheriff, fired everyone and only hired his friend? No way, that would never work. The worst idea ever!Apart from few interesting details this movie is extremely boring to watch. It's simple though, it's satisfying but it doesn't stand out, it doesn't really feel like anything. Kind of a waste of time because of how average it is.
regahsof This movie, given its star actor, is what I imagine watching a wrestling match is like. There is nonstop action and movement with breaks taken only due to fatigue. From the opening camera moving across the landscape, to Chris on a moving ferry, to Chris walking for the entire opening credits back home, you don't encounter many, if any, scenes of one setting, with two actors in a one-on-one situation, engaging in dialogue for several long minutes. Maybe that's a drama, and this, to be sure, is certainly no drama movie. So much happens in this movie, which seems to make it so interesting, and a rush. What some people spend their entire lives doing or could take more than one lifetime doing -- weeding out corruption and social rot in a city/town, seems to get accomplished in the span of a couple months. Also in that time-frame Chris wins a small election (details of which aren't shown) which turns in to a good job and gets back with his former girlfriend. Does life happen this quickly for some people, especially somebody who was away for eight years? In "Walking Tall", it did.
alindsay-al It is evident that over the years The Rock's career as an actor has improved, but I do think this is a fun enjoyable fun that does have its negatives but also definitely has its positives. The story sees an ex army guy Chris returning home as he attempts to clean up his town from the corruption within. The Rock was quite new at this point and for this film he was great in the role, he used all his charm and charisma in the role but not a lot of acting is really portrayed by him. Johnny Knoxville did a good job as the Rock's best friend and adds good comic relief to the film. I also thought the main villain was portrayed well with him being a good adversary for The Rock. But I thought the Rock's romance was underused and not given enough screen time also the corrupt sheriff is in the same position and doesn't add much to the film. The story is decent seeing a story of an average man attempting to do what's right and fix his down. However, there was other parts of the stories that were not given enough screen time and it took away from the whole film. The script was alright with the chemistry between The Rock and Knoxville being really good but some of the dialogue was poor from some of the other characters. The style in the film is really cool with the action being great and the hard hitting emphasise the realism of the film. Overall this is a fun film but isn't a great film which could of surely been improved.
